Year 1 Contributors

As bad as he ate, Taylor was stuck at 275-280 for a long time. We even listed him at 305 and he was 30 pounds under that

And he looked like it.
Our “big guys” on defense, just don’t look like it to me. There’s a noticeable difference between ours and quite a few of those teams UM fans were complaining about being ranked behind last night.

Depends what you mean by Contributors. If it is start or earn heavy starting rotational snaps, probably only Wiley, Pringle, and maybe a WR. DB should not simply from the fact we should get like 5 Portal DBs asap. If it is just getting some amount of snaps in most games:

- Wiley has opportunity to have the biggest immediate impact here. Could earn the starting role immediately and it'd be the least surprising thing. The Size/athleticism/toughness is all there. The only question is if the mental is there with him. We've seen such garbage LB intelligence the last 2 seasons especially with allignment that I really hope he's got his understanding of the game down. I really do NOT think we should hit the portal for a LB again. Between Popo, Pruitt, Wiley, Bobby, Haye AND Wes and Alderman still as floor depth guys who have been starting for us all season already, that would be dumb imo.

- Pringle could absolutely play immediately, But I doubt he'll get as many snaps as Lyle had this year. I think RB we should always be getting a guy capable of playing immediately in case of injuries. We should be confident they can get 8 carries/game. If not what the **** is the point of recruiting that particular player? RB is not a developmental position. With Martinez going pro, and Ajay Allen probably leaving, there are some snaps to be had. Lyle will replace Martinez' snaps, leaving Lyles+Allens snap count open.

- Obviously we have literally all but OJ's job at our 5 main DB positions fully open for the taking. Wallace has no shot this year due to injury. If Antione is healthy he is probably the best guy to bet on at getting a CB job. I think Fitgerald if he actually starts out at CB like he should could get a lot of PT. But ultimately if we don't literally go and get like 5 Portal DBs I'm going to be ******* pulling my hair out. I don't expect any of these Frosh DBs to really contribute unless due to injury.

- WR there will be opportunity for a WR to earn Full starting snaps. Full fresh start at WR. Only guarantee is Horton is a starter. I'd expect Trader to be a full starter and to get a WR1 in portal. But even if those 3 happen we still have quite a bit of snaps to be had. Best bet is probably Moore. But honestly I wouldn't be surprised if Upshaw or Toney won some meaningful Slot snaps. I don't think Ray ray has been good at all... So in general I'd be surprised if we don't get contribution out of one of the frosh WRs this year. But nothing crazy either...

- Schott looks legit and is going to be TE3 immediately, which means he'll get some solid snaps in. If you consider Lofton a contributor this year, Schott probably can be considered one too.

- OL I doubt any will start immediately, but would not at all be shocked if SJ or Buchanan (only 1) earned a rotational or even starting C/G job by the middle of the season. SJ Looks like he's our future starting Center. Whether that happens immediately or not we'll see.

- Lowe is probably an instant useful depth piece. I think we need 1 portal EDGE, just cause otherwise we are far too inexperienced and We have a lot of snaps opening up. But even though we have a lot of EDGE talent, a can see Lowe getting a handful or two snaps per game by the middle of the season.

I saw they were looking at 19 EEs. I assume Toney is one of the 2 not EE. Who is the other?

I think Wiley plays on D early and STs. I could see Ewald playing early depending on what we do in the portal. I think Pringle gets touches maybe as a kick returner and at RB depending on rotation/depth/health. You’re not keeping Lowe off the field. I think Schott takes part of Lofton’s role from this season as TE3.

If we only add 1-2 WRs from the portal, I would think one of Upshaw and/or Moore get some chances.

How many do you need per class? I’m talking impact guys. My guess is 1-3, maybe 4 or 5 including Special Teams (see Day).

I presume this class has SJ, Hayden & Malachi. Including ST I would add Wiley. Overall it’s a Good not Great class. Good need is the portal is loaded, we have a lot to spend after striking out on some big targets. Hope we nail DC hire, I’ve heard some interesting names.
Add herbie Scroggins to this list. I loved his interview lol

The only things keeping SJ from starting are if he can't make the line calls (at C) or portal additions because it sure as **** aren't any of the IOL on the current roster.

SJ and Wiley would be my guess of this class being on the 2 deep come the start of next season.

Pringle depends more on if the guys ahead of him leave this offseason.

Pringle is wat this board wants CJ to be.

I think Bryce could end up at WR. hes a kid who can be a bust or solid. Hes very athletic and fast. not sure if tackling is hes soft or he isn't good at it. Moore might be the most upside of anyone in the class but hes VERY raw.

Ewald should play early.

Trust me if totally good with it if we land someone to replace him in portal. I reached my fill of Kiko & Wesley.
I’m hoping that a DC that’s worth a crap will be able to put these kids in a position to make a tackle or seal an edge to whatever their job might be instead of running around looking for what they’re supposed to be doing while the ball is being snapped….

Maybe not but I can hope..

Maybe Ewald - can’t recall if Chaminade kids are allowed to EE, but I believe it isn’t allowed there.

They miss to many tackles and still remember Rutgers rb carrying them
No one is carrying Wiley - kid is a knock back tackler…sr film is NASTY. You don’t lose that ability coming into a college football strength and conditioning program.

After seeing how this coaching staff misused Brashard, I am convinced they are misusing CJ. So many situations they never used or attempted to use his skill set.

If Pringle is in the same mold, I don’t expect the staff to get it right based on the evidence at hand.

RB is not a problem for us.

QB is open but if not a portal QB, have got to believe Emory is in pole position

RB snaps are wide open - if Pringle can pass block, he will play similar snaps to Lyle this year

Slot WR is WIDE OPEN - Toney/Upshaw will have to beat out RayRay and Carr - I don’t see it happening unless one of these freshmen blast out the gate with Ahmmon type generational talent

TE - Arroyo gone (NFL rounds 1-3) so TE1/2/3 snaps are wide open and for the taking - 2 TEs get starter snaps in our OFF so AT LEAST 1 of our freshman TEs should play minimum TE3 snaps - my bet is on the 6’7 kid filling the McCormick role and playing A LOT.

OL - usually this is an upperclassmen position unless you’re an absolute stud (Francis) so maybe SJ can fill the 8th OL role but outside of that, I see our freshman getting stronger and learning/developing

DL - same as OL - maybe a rotational/situational role at best but these guys will (SHOULD) redshirt and focus on getting stronger and learning/developing

LB - gets interesting here because I DO NOT like a portal LB. Play our guys and I think LB3 snaps are WIDE OPEN for Mr. Wiley. Wes showed us how difficult it is for a young LB to play well, so Wiley’s football IQ will have to align with his talent - otherwise, my $$$ is on one of the SOPH LBs to take this years Popo/Alderman LB3 snaps. I see Alderman possibly transferring out unless he’s good with LB4/mentoring.

CB/S - unfair here because 2 of our impact freshman are coming in hurt. I do have Fitz playing a major role, possibly as DB5/DB6 - but I have Dylan Day pushing Harris and also have at least 2 big time portal additions, one at CB and one at S.
