WR Eaford details why he left the class, visits for Junior Day

His testing numbers are mediocre to bad. Time for Canes to move on.

We need speed at the WR position. Alabama in the college ranks and KC in the pros have demonstrated that speed across the WR corps dominates defenses. Eaford is not that guy.

You guys are too focused on testing numbers to ever actually see a kids potential. This kid has the goods, go ask Marshall from Palmetto was he fast after he beat him deep

It’s pretty obvious why there’s sour grapes. He said he committed to us to honor his deceased father, then decommitted soon after. That, plus seeing that clip above with the blue smoke is exactly what the coaches are not looking for in terms of attitude right now.

Wish him success, but except for one-handed catches with gloves on in a camp setting, idrk what we’d be missing out on.

Speed is overrated for WRs.

Regardless, Eaford ain't it. George is the WR in that archetype we want.

Keenan Allen- 6'2 215
Deandre Hopkins- 6'1 210
Cooper Kupp - 6'2 210
Michael Thomas- 6'3 215

So guys running slower times are the bigger wrs. Completely agree if they are after a smaller guy give me Jacolby George easily. Cant be small and slow..sheesh.

Yeah I think the point is that speed isn't the be-all end-all. Other traits matter as much or more for top-end WRs. I don't know of any small+slow WRs who are starter quality in the NFL so this trend doesn't support those kinds of players.

10-yd splits, speed scores and change of direction tests matter more for positions that are closer to the ball. This is definitely true of the pros and @Lance Roffers has done a good job showing its relevance to college projections as well. Fans generally overvalue speed for WRs and DBs.

I mean...He definitely produced on the field this year vs. good comp.

I don't agree with the antics but let's not forget we're the same program that invented that type of ****.
Plus it's a 7-on-7 setting. Those things are junkyard. If he tried that nonsense during a real football game then there's a problem. (and he won't)

He's not slow though. What is with yall and this combine stuff?

THAT **** DOESN'T MATTER.

Not one scout in the country is paying attention to what a kid ran at some irrelevant combine.

I had a kid who's recruiting profile STILL TO THIS DAY says that he's 5'9" 165lbs and run a 4.72 forty.
During freshman testing at Syracuse he ran a 4.47 laser at 5'10" 182lbs.

Eaford is not a 4.7 kid.
It's as simple as turning on the tape. He's not fast by any means but 4.7 kids don't do what he does.

Lots of kids play faster than they test. A ton of high school kids haven't been taught the nuances of running the 40 so they often post sub par 40 numbers. However, this kid's shuttle and vertical numbers are also pretty terrible for a <6' receiver. Unless he was injured or for some reason didn't even try at the Opening, his odds of being an impact receiver at a major program are minimal.

He decommitted because the coach that was his primary contact wasn’t guaranteed to be there and he ended up leaving.

As far as this kids skill, honestly he probably will come down with 50-50 balls better than any WR on the roster not named Restrepo or Payton. All the smoke about 40s and vertical jumps can be discussed down the line for the real draft experts.
