WR Depth In 2017

Cager and Mullins will be next up, hopefully they produce

That's what being at the U means...when the pressure is on you play your best and hardest.

That's some **** we used to say when we had McGahee sitting behind Gore sitting behind Portis. It wasn't some magical formula that makes the next guy great, it was that the next guy was a future great who just couldn't see the field because of the current great. Remember when Kellen Winslow had to play ST if he wanted to get on the field? That ain't where we're at right now.

Maybe not but just sittin round waitin for Juedy to come on down is a true waste of time. Not knocking the staff for trying. But, you have to work with and really develop what you already have. I'm not about playing the 'crying game' just because we might have missed out on all three top WR choices. I've seen enough from Cager, Mullins, and Harris to be somewhat pleased. The TRENCHES is where we need to get right.

Receiver looks like a mess right now with no clear starters after Richards, but if Richt lands Slaton/Herbert, I don't care. Build up that O-Line and you can succeed with less talent out wide.

One thing I'll say is that we had no true starters after Coley coming into the season, so it can be done.

Absolutely right. We have to have depth in the trenches. That is what matters most. I am still concerned with having depth at WR and CB, but decent qbs, RBs, and WRs can look good with excellent olines (i.e., Bama), decent CBs can look great with a great pass rush (I.e., Michigan). Got to build from the inside out.

I think the offense is going to regress next year. And that's a scary thought.

Depends if Kaaya comes back or not. If he does, I don't see that happening, especially not with a Horse we got at RB. I like Coley, but he was replaceable. Just one of those WR has to step up, point blank, and that's not a hard position for a WR to take it to the next level.

I think people are kind of still stuck with the Golden and Shannon era of looking at things. One of their main downfalls was they couldn't develop the talent.

Golden probably had more attrition than any coach at the U. Shannon just plain sucked at developing a good 2008 class. I understand the emphasis of infusing talented recruits, but development is always going to be the key. That's what brought us back in the 2000's and the early 80's. If the coaching staff can develop the talent we have now, and the S&C staff can mold these players, I think we'll be absolutely fine.

Someone contact Isiah McKenzie's people and get him to grad transfer. Problem solved

Mullins is the wildcard we dont know what we are going to get with him, we sh¡t the bed horribly this cycle recruiting wideouts

I wonder if they're finally going to switch Trayone Gray to WR?

Ever wonder why he wasn't on KR? I think it's time to give up on the idea that this kid will ever produce.

Well both staffs fell in love with Lewis as a KR for some reason - to be fair to Golden he took Duke Johnson off KR once he realised he was the only RB on the roster.

We've not tried Gray out at WR. That's his money position in my opinion. We're lacking depth there - why not give him a run out? He's not going to get any snaps at RB with Walton, Burns, McFarland and Homer back there.

I don't think anyone was in love with Lewis at KR, I think it was a case of him being the best option we could afford to lose. People complained, but taking Duke of PR/KR was one of the few smart things al did.

As for Gray, he's been here long enough that I think he would have seen the field if he were going to. By all means, try the kid at every position- he's got talent that we could use, but I don't have much faith that it'll work. Whatever the coaches don't like about him he doesn't seem able to fix. Hope I'm wrong.

This. For as good of an athlete he is, he hasn't even seen the field on ST coverage units. The dude never got off the bench....period.

Odds are that if you haven't seen the field in 3-4 years, a position change will not fix it. That said, I wouldn't mind seeing him get some touches in the spring at both WR and RB. The guy has a nice burst and is a fantastic athlete. Surely we can use someone like him on the field.

I typed that under the assumption that kaaya was leaving.

Depends what direction Mark Richt wants to go! But yea, either option it will be a step back, but it does set us up for a **** of a 2018 run at the ship.

There's not a lot of WR depth. Golden left depth at QB and RB but very little at WR. He also left behind a decent amount of OL depth, even if the linemen all sucked.

Just like Kendall Thompkins

I expect cager to start opposite Richards, was having a solid camp prior to injury, throw in the fact that evidence njoku is joining team, plus dallas can play both ways and could factor in at wr plus a full year of mullins and Miami will be fine at wr, I expect them to land Harley and at least one more wr if not 2 not sure who may be but I know wr is position of need especially speed

What was it Sam Bruce kicked off for again? Playing basketball, I believe.

Good call, Richt. That worked out well.

Good thing we have all that depth at WR to see us through. Who needs five star local legends at receiver when they're committing to us in droves.
