He’s visited Auburn on Friday then heads to Miami on Sunday with visits being worked on for early next week to Georgia and Georgia Tech. His agent, Casey Dunn, laid out the visits for Daniels and he’s closing in on a decision after the visits.
We will try to knock out all the visits by Tuesday net week, I don’t think he’ll take any more visits after that,” Gunn said. “Hopefully we’ll have clarity on Auburn’s and Miami’s quarterback situations by the mid to end of next week. That’s a huge factor as regard to those schools. Outside of Georgia Tech and Ole Miss there’s not a lot of clarity at the other positions.”
That said, Daniels told Auburn Live this week that he might shut things down after his Miami visit. The Hurricanes were close to landing him last time he was in the transfer portal before he picked LSU. He knows what he’s looking for as he searches for his home for his final year of eligibility.
We can have a 6 man rotation at WR next year with Hortan, 2 of the portal guys, Jojo, Carr, & Chance. That top 6 would be eliteWR seems to be the position we are currently MOST agressive in the Portal At. Seems like we are getting most of the top Portal WRs to visit. Seems like we are about to spend pretty big at the position and likely to get 2 pretty good guys.
With us losing Restrepo, Brown, and George, we'll probably just spend the same amount we were this year on the position group.
A year ago at this time Liberty star receiver CJ Daniels was in the portal evaluating his options. His top choice? Per his agent, Casey Gunn, it was Miami. But the Hurricanes didn’t have a standout quarterback on board at that point, with Albany’s Reese Poffenbarger and Emory Williams the expected main guys. Cam Ward was planning to go to the NFL back then.
So Daniels wound up at LSU.
Now?
Daniels visited Miami on Sunday and the situation isn’t all that dissimilar, other than Emory Williams being a guy with a bright future and the Canes remaining on the hunt for a top portal QB. But while UM continues to hammer in on its portal target behind center, today’s visit certainly went very well from Daniels’ perspective.
Daniels also has visited Auburn and Mississippi. And Gunn says off this visit that potential upcoming trips to Georgia and Georgia Tech that had been mentioned previously aren’t going to happen. Gunn confirmed it’s UM-Auburn-Mississippi battle.
As for the decision date?
“No exact date, but hopefully in these coming days / weeks,” Gunn said.
Yep. Has to bode pretty well.Daniels canceling the UGA and GT visits coming off the visit here is huge.
