With a close of

Alex Collins
Stacy Coley
Jermaine Grace
Jaynard Bostwick
Gus Edwards
Terrell Brooks

I assume that's how it will look right now with everything we are reading. This obviously would still be a strong close, and if Matthew Thomas didn't exist, we would be going crazy over this close. But as much as i want Collins and Coley, there will still be a sick feeling in my stomach if we let Thomas get away. Especially if he goes to FSU.

Any class without Matthew Thomas is at best a B in my book. You don't miss out on the defensive player in Florida over the last 5 years, who happens to be in your backyard and coached by a guy who used to work for the program, and not suffer the consequences.

If the class is missing Thomas and Collins, it starts at a C+, at best.

I agree.....BUT, if there is nothing else you could have done...then it is what it is. As long as it's not a Shannon doesn't recruit Central situation, or we got out worked. I'm not sure what else we can ask of the staff.

We don't get judged on effort. As much as it may suck, we get judged on results. If we were going to do this "well, at least we tried" thing, then hire a group of technical wizards and gain a competitive advantage that way. For now, here's what our staff looks like:

Golden
Cristobal
Coley
Carroll
Franklin
Barrow

That's a pretty clear indication that recruiting is their bread and butter. As such, that's where the expected results should be.

Is it still a B if Toby Johnson is somehow added?

Speculating JC or is there scuttlebutt about TJ and the Canes?

Yeah, but you sometimes still can't convince someone to stay....look at kids like Liguet, or Joyner....some kids are just leaving town no matter what. I don't know if that's the case with Thomas, but if it is then I am ok with the staff's effort.

Like others have said, this cannot be more than a B without 6 when the kid freakin
Livs 20 minutes from campus

I, personally, am speculating, but Pete said last night that TJ was very much in play.

This, everyone.

There is always something the staff could have done. No excuses for missing out on a guy like Thomas. He is not a Lamarcus Joyner case who let it be known both publicly and privately that there was absolutely no way he was staying home early in the process. If we miss out on him, let there be zero doubt that there was something the staff could have done, and they either didn't do it or missed their opportunity to do it. It reflects poorly on Miami.

While I am generally positive about Golden, and do like him and believe he will at least elevate the program above where it was under Shannon and Coker, missing on Thomas is black mark #2 against him, with #1 being the loss to Virginia. I'm not going to count Mathew Thomas against him at this point, as nothing is absolutely settled, but if it so happens that we miss on him, then I am starting to see some cracks in the Golden foundation. Doesn't mean he can't be great or get it all together, but it does highlight reason for concern.

Are ya'll forgetting or shall I say, DISCOUNTING the kids that have committed and stayed true to that? We have some NICE finds and pick ups.

Don't kid yourselves...Al is just like Butch was in his ability to evaluate talent. Stars don't mean **** and I am really beginning to see how much 305 don't mean ****.

I can roll with most of this.

I'd go B, B-, C+ tho.

Thomas is nothing like Willie Williams but this situation reminds me of his

5 star LB
Down to UM and FSU
Crazy recruitment
Fans go nuts
Comes to UM, doesn't work
Winds up amounting to nothing

The last 2 are still up in the air in regards to MT - but I'm a much bigger fan of kids who commit early. They just seem to work harder and have more of a chip on their shoulder.

/would still get excited if MT chose Canes

Lucane, I live in the real world where outcome is definitely more important than motive. However, I'm not sure what more the staff could've done. By all accounts they recruited Thomas as hard and as fairly as anyone. Maybe the kid just doesn't wanna come to UM...

Results, friendo. I like Al as much as the next guy. But, I'm a fanatic and loyal member of the Miami Hurricane community; not the Al Golden community. I'll follow leaders that produce results. He may produce incredible results and God knows he's been up against a storm up to this point. I just can't fairly give the guy high marks for having half the equation (saying the right things).

Do I trust him? Yes. Will I trust him over the long-term without evidence of success? No.

Probably nothing, I agree. I'm sure they wanted Thomas as badly or moreso than any one of us. All I'm saying is their judgment is primarily based on results.

And that coach had two sons become all Americans at Miami. De pinga!
