So it’s really just Carpenter who won’t be back and possibly Rivers. Although he might be able to make more as a 6th year senior than as a late round/undrafted lineman. Cooper could technically declare and we do have a tradition of undraftable guys declaring early but a) he’s a guard and even the best ones are undervalued in the draft and b) he wasn’t an elite recruit who never planned on playing a fourth year of college football like most of the guys who check out early.I thought Carpenter/Rivers gone from eligiability, plus Cooper doing what most 3 year canes starters do and declare regardless of if they get drafted or not. So that would be 3/5. Only one declaring for the draf not 3/5 getting drafted. Could have worded it better.
On Rivers- He would be going into year 6 if he stays. He's probably a 5-7th round guy. He can play every position on the Oline which is huge.
Regardless, it would be year 3 for Mario’s “top o-line class” and it’s about time at least one of those guys grabbed a starting position. If none of the group of Okenlola, Kinsler, McCoy or Tinilau can be counted on to be a legit starting caliber player then I have to seriously question Mario and Mirabal’s ability to not only scout linemen but to develop them.
