Winky Flowers- 2014 QB- Miami Jackson

First of all, does anyone even know if he would demand a shot at QB? Second of all, I'm all for getting him on campus by whatever means necessary. Kid is fantastic with the ball in his hands. These are the types of guys that become stars at other programs and built places like WVU into powers.

Finally, lets face facts. Perhaps in the past we would have been able to turn guys like this away because they were stubborn about position change. But we were 6-6 last year. We are headed for probation. Who are we to turn away elite talents in our backyard regardless of what position they claim to want a shot at? I realize we dont run the spread, but do you seriously prefer to take guys like Gray Crow over Flowers because they may or may not be a better fit schematically? Good coaches take what they have and tweak their system to their strengths. I'd rather take a top flight football player and change the offense a little bit than take a lesser guy because he looks more polished under center.

LOL. Robert Griffin III was a legitimate 4* player...high 4* at that. Second best QB in the state of Texas behind Andrew Luck and was a Top 5 overall player. Was pretty well known as being able to run a legitimate 4.3 as a QB. Started as a true freshman.

I mean, Robert Griffin was a major prospect...not some guy that came out of the woodwerks lol.

I've known who Winky Flowers is/was for years now. The kid was all the rage for those who cut a wager on an optimist game here and there.

How am I saying he isn't talented? You got yourself some poor read'n skillz.

You said the following...

People gotta stop acting like they knew who the **** Robert Griffin was when he came out of High School.

Which is completely false.

My comment had nothing to do with Flowers.

How do they differ. Lots of ways. Honesty, I don't really even see a comparison between the two. I think it is more of a Larry Blue sidebar comparison that just makes note of how exciting they are, not exactly a play type comparison.

Flowers looks like your classic South Florida super athlete that his high school team plays at quarterback. You offer these players 10 times out of 10 and tell them whatever they want to hear to get a commitment.

They do differ in lots of ways...watch the highlights...watch enough RGIII and catch some Flowers games...they really aren't anything alike as far as skills and style goes.

As for the rest...its a lot of **** that is either not true or makes no sense and lacks all common sense of the state of football today.

Problem is a Treon Harris is in the same boat. Says we offered him at QB but we all know he will likely move to another position.

This is exactly the issue.

I don't really see either of Treon or Flowers being a starting QB at Miami. Both have potential at other positions though. The thing is, if we're taking one guy like that, it's gotta be Treon (even though Flowers might be slightly more impressive). Because with Treon comes good graces for a lot more talent

Before the 2011 season, I argued with a ton of Grassy folks who said RGIII would get converted to receiver in the NFL and that Bridgewater couldn't play QB in college. Not saying you were one of them (don't think you were) just pointing out the Grassy consensus.

With Flowers, I'll withhold judgment until I see him play a full game. But everything I've seen and heard tells me he is a college QB and a much better prospect than Harris (who I also think we should take.) He's stronger than Jacory and Teddy, has large hands which allow him to play bigger (a la Drew Brees) and seems to be poised with the ball in his hands.

The next Heisman candidate South Florida QB, whoever he is, needs to sign with Miami.

Lastly, and this can't be understated, his name is Winky Flowers.

I'm not saying he's not a quarterback lol. I am watching Denard Robinson start essentially for FOUR YEARS at a powerhouse school. He could project to kicker and I'd still take him. I don't ever not consider taking those South Florida athletes they throw at QB. Take'em EVERY.SINGLE.TIME...and I'd lie straight to their face that they could play head coach if that meant getting their commitment.

It looks to me as though his mechanics have improved this year. Kid is a junior still. Not only is he a better prospect generally than Treon, but he looks much more like a legitimate QB than Treon. Automatic take IMHO, and if he wants a shot at QB I'd give it to him.
