Will Wade to N.C. State..

NC State did what programs that are serious about winning do, they hire the best coach they can find. They don't rely on potential. They tried the inexperienced alum route in Sidney Lowe, it failed miserably. They've consistently went out and either hired guys that found success at midmajors(Keatts), veteran coaches looking for a second wind(Gottfried), or in this case someone that was radioactive for a little bit, but redeemed himself at a midmajor(Wade).

Miami on the other hand, we're good with doing a halfassed search and settling for magic beans. It could be the second coming of John Thompson or Calipari, or it can be Frank Haith. Who knows. We're just hoping for the best.

Keatts and Gottfried weren’t good there

My point with Lucas hire, when you have a sure thing, why roll the dice? Why? Like I ask my kids when they do something dumb that makes a mess, Why did you so that? Why?

I can swing out of my shoes and hit a drive 300 down middle of a tight fairway 1 out of 10 times, or I can hit a 4 iron in play 8 out or 10 times.

Miami chose the Happy Gilmore approach.

Will Wade and Miami were a match made for each other. He has little villian to him with past, and people despise Miami. He would have ****ed lot of people off winning so much here. Oh and he coaches an exciting brand of basketball.

Whoever has the funds that pushed Lucas is alot smarter in their field of business than sports knowledge.

Again, this will be a fun thread to revisit a year from now

Seems like a common Miami problem.

I’m not sure I’d want to set the performance review at a year… if I were you.

Very few head coaches figure it all out in their first year.
I expect to be in the tourney or at the very least on the bubble. That’s my bar given the way you’re able to construct a roster now

Compared to who? Keatts was the best coach since Jimmy V. An argument could be made for Herb (consistency), but he never won an ACCT or made it past the S16.

All programs aren’t created equal. It’s a dead end job if you don’t use it as a rehab stop/stepping stone. What he did last year was a literal miracle and puts him on the Mount Rushmore of coaches there. 4 banners under 4 coaches. He’s one of them.

What?

While Gottfried's last two years were around .500 and Keatts final year was sub-.500 as well, they both did well in their tenures at NC State.

Gottfried coached for 6 seasons at NC State and made the NCAAs in his first 4 years. He missed the post-season in his final two years.

Keatts coached for 8 seasons at NC State. The 2020 post-season was cancelled, but NC State was likely to make the NCAAs that year. If NC State makes the NCAAs in 2020, that would be 4 NCAA Tournaments and 2 NIT Tournaments, while missing the post-season twice, including his final year.

Those records are not "weren't good".

Yep. We are the same school that hired Randy Shannon instead of Gary Patterson back in the day... it's a Miami disease... head scratching coaching decisions. Talk about self inflicted mediocrity..

Will Wade pulled out the 2-3 zone for the first time all year against Clemson, held them to 13 points in the first half, great coaching by him
