Will Jake Heaps Start at Miami

In that video, it looked like he threw just as good as the other guy. Weiss prob went with the quick feet.

To be honest I kind of like heaps... He's not Treon Harris but he'll be pretty good... I like him better than Williams at this point..

Looked pretty good in the video, but then again Kansas was the defense and he wasn't going to get hit, time will tell. Cautiously optimistic, but very hopeful.

I'm scared. But also cautiously optimistic that this works out like when vinny went from Tampa to New York.

Yes, he didn't come here to be a backup for his last season. We won't see much of Williams imo

Wow 48 drops and 28 sacks at Kansas...that's bad lol

yeah and the plays he wasnt sacked, he was hurried. lol honestly, morris had no game management ability so i doubt he will be much worse.

Getting sacked that many times is usually indicative of bad pocket presence.

Last year Brees was sacked 37 Times ,Brady 40 and Russell Wilson 44.

:fistbump: :quag: :nelsonhaha::ibisroflmao:

I've won several bets against this guy. When you bet dozens of games every week it naturally links to watching obscure players in faraway conferences. Actually I'm accustomed to watching BYU and schools in that region after spending so much time in Las Vegas.

Heaps has always had inept yards per attempt. I wager based on yards per attempt, as I've mentioned many times. It's extremely difficult in college football to sustain yards per attempt in the 6 range but Jake Heaps remarkably has accomplished it.

For an arrogant guy on and off the field he defaults to the scared underneath pass in astonishing percentage. Forced incompletions into coverage followed by a string of safe and short. It will be interesting to see if that continues here. One time I bet in favor of BYU and happened to cash but it was little of Jake Heap's doing. Kyle Van Noy stripped the ball and manufactured a fantastic defensive touchdown to pull out the opener at Mississippi a few years ago, after Heaps didn't produce a point until well into the 4th quarter.

Small quarterback who is indeed a pocket type. Early in his career he made the most of key situations but then became known for inopportune turnovers. I have one friend who is a big BYU fan and was happy when Heaps departed.

It's not all negative. I'd rather have a 4 or 5 star recruit and a sense that he's eligible to find that form than a guy who has never been special at any point of his career.

So does that mean you think he is ok or not?

That means he is as good as a Kansas QB. Is that who you want at Miami? Probably not.

If he can manage a game and just get the ball to people on short routes and bomb here and there, we are good.

Heaps is like 33 yrs old so he can't be that bad...

That's cool and all, but the QB who replaced Heaps last year was not sacked at close to the same rate that Heaps was. I bet Heaps gets sacked a lot here.

And by the way, Drew Brees has the 2nd lowest sack % in the NFL, Manning the lowest, Brady the 7th lowest over the last 15 or so years.

If you add Heaps' sacks onto his attempts then calculate the % of times he gets sacked compared to dropping back (not accounting for plays where he ran out of bounds and rushed the football but wasn't sacked), then he gets sacked about 8% of the time. The Cozart kid was about 5% of the time. The sack numbers are concerning.

And what was the per game average? You are not comparing apples to apples. Nice try though, but not really.

Brees had 650 pass attempts last year compared to Heaps' 261. Just sayin. Didn't look up anyone else.

Ferman mentioned he had 48 dropped passes last year. That's seems like a ton. Heaps was 128/261 yielding a completion percentage of 49% with 8 TD & 10 INT last year. If you add in those drops, which I assume are the receivers' fault (and I assume Miami has better receivers who will drop less balls), he's 176/261 which is 67%. I'd take that.

I'd be curious to know how many, if any, of those drops contributed to his 10 interceptions. We know Morris had a habit of throwing rockets at his receivers only to have them bounce off their hands and get picked. I'd also be curious to know how many of those drops would've been TDs.

Someone that's bored feel free to watch all his game film and tally that up for me...

I'm not convinced he's our savior by any means, but I'd much rather have him on the team than not and I'm excited to see what happens.

Seems like my concerns were spot on, according to DMoney.
