Why Important for Top Recruits to Commit

I think it's important for top recruits, that are planning on signing with The U, to commit long before NSD. Here's why. I'm sure top recruits want to see their school of choice land the best recruits available. To win you have to. By committing early a top recruit can influence other top recruits to do the same. Great players want to play with great players, but if the commits ain't happening you as a top recruit make it difficult for your school of future choice to recruit other top players. I know many like the attention and the over played hat BS, but you can do yourself and your school of choice a huge boost by committing early.

More importantly is your place in line may have been taken by someone else when you finally reach your decision...

Kids learn their pecking order in December. By that time their phone is blowing up or they can not get a return phone call.

Committing early is great for all the reasons mentioned above as long as it's a true committment, meaning no getting flipped late in the cycle. Then that becomes a huge problem. I don't think that is going to happen with Richt. He is to well respected for kids to pull that BS and I'm sure he makes it very clear what committing means to the players. By that I mean he tells kids don't commit unless you mean it. He only wants kids that truly want to be Canes. Our last two HC's consisted of a guy who had no idea what it meant to be a Cane and one that was too lazy to put in the effort to secure the loyalty of top players. My $0.02.

Go Canes!

If I was a coach, I wouldn't accept a verbal commitment until August. They flip too often these days. The later the better.

Recruits shouldn't commit this early to a new coach, Mark Richt Miami, until they see a few games first. See the schemes & playing style, then make decision.

I don't think you set that type of rule unless you are willing to lose a recruit if they try earlier. If that's the case "play on playa".
