Why did staff bench Yearby for Gus Edwards?

Also factor in Gus Edwards was considering becoming a grad transfer to Syracuse so they are giving him some burn so he stays. On top of that benching Yearby they are killing his draft status if he wanted to go pro early. Really two birds with one stone kinda thing.

Yearby would not get drafted if he left early.

Are you saying they are benching Yearby to keep him here?

smh at some of the fuggin theorists on this board. I hope to God you are not aspiring meteorologists or political pollsters.

Gus can pass protect , yearby is god awful.

He's making a huge difference , just replay pass plays when he's in.

He's walling mofos.

Walton is also really good as protection , with this ol we need all the help we can get.

Come again. Walton has taken the matador approach top pass blocking. Ole`

I think that would be a good move for Gus. Get a year at Syracuse so his family and friends can see him play. He'll get a lot of burn at Syracuse.

Maybe staff heard that Yearby was going to transfer or go to the league? I guarantee that Joe is not happy about being the feature back. He has a plan and maybe the staff knows about it so they have decided to limit him. I would not be surprised at all if he transferred to d2 or even sat out a year to get a shot to start.

Richt seemed really disgusted by that fumble last week. Right after it happened and then in the post game. I have a feeling that is the #1 factor, at least for this week.

Wrong that is Yearby . Walton is good at pass blocking and Gus is great at it. Yearby is garbage at it.

I would not want him to do that. If he comes back, we would have three backs with experience and a decent amount of talent all coming back. We could safely redshirt incoming freshman, and our RB depth would be pretty **** good. I don't see the downside in him coming back.

Gus was stoning motherfckers in pass protection yesterday. Great recognition on a couple plays where he crossed the formation to pick up pass rushers. Invaluable.

Brown also admitted last week he's made a mistake not playing Gus more.

Yearby hardly ever fumbles tho

I know...I'm not saying it was the right call. I have been a Yearby advocate all year...I'm just saying if I had to guess at a reason that would be at the top. Pass pro is definitely a factor too like other posters have mentioned.

It was both of them, just look at the four game stretch on October. Even though the OL played horridly, regardless who was playing RB, they were getting no help even in max protect. At the time Williams was getting no burn at all.

Lets face it, we have three backs with strong splinter skills, but none are a complete back (and I'm not even talking about elite). It also limits the substitution patterns, whoever is in the game, telegraphs what we're capable of doing.
