Why did staff bench Yearby for Gus Edwards?

Does coach brown simply not like Yearby? The reason I ask this question is because Yearby was a 1000 yard rusher last season and came back into camp in the best shape of his career. During the season for many of the games he has been the best back of the field.

Now he has been essentially benched in favor of Gus Edwards. Anyone knows what is going on with Yearby?

He has whiffed on a lot of blocks in pass pro. Seems like that could be lethal to a QB in the RPO

I figured the way this O-line is blocking, they felt like they needed to utilize the bigger backs that can break tackles and run through that first contact.

Yearby fumbled last week, followed by missing blocks on pass pro early in the game..That probably killed his playing time. Other than that, he DID have 2 carries for 15 yards in that game.

I have never saw this in Gus. Just not sold on him being a physical runner.

Also...they may want to prevent Gus from transferring so they are giving him carries to keep him here...or the opposite...letting him show his "skills" for any team he may be able to transfer to.

Gus has shown the ability to break tackles and run through contact. Just needs to do it consistently. Not saying I agree with it but I think coaches have been leaning towards Gus getting more carries and Yearby's late fumble and pass pro issues resulted in limited burn this week. I figure we see him a little more next week.

Gus can pass protect , yearby is god awful.

He's making a huge difference , just replay pass plays when he's in.

He's walling mofos.

Walton is also really good as protection , with this ol we need all the help we can get.

Yeah a couple of plays where I was watching the pocket and Gus was in, dude was lighting kids up. Now if he can translate that when the ball is in his hands...

I said this about Mark Richt RB's way before the season started....if you prove you can't block, you won't see the field

I think it's more to do with the fact they're both big backs who are good pass blockers.

Yearby might be a good pass blocker, but he doesn't have the size of the other two to stone that blitzer.

Walton has been horrendous in pass pro this year - even getting Kayaa almost killed a few times. Yet he wasn't benhed

Disagree. He's whiffed on some but he's actually a good blocker. Gus is the best of the three

Also factor in Gus Edwards was considering becoming a grad transfer to Syracuse so they are giving him some burn so he stays. On top of that benching Yearby they are killing his draft status if he wanted to go pro early. Really two birds with one stone kinda thing.
