Why can't Miami win this year?

We gave up 30 points a game last year (tied for 82nd in points allowed). We would all agree that this isn't Where we want to be, not Miami football. Can we shave a touchdown off of that? Even with a dumbed down schedule? That would put us in the top30-40 range. Probably be the difference between 8/4 and 9/3 or even 10/2. Huge difference. Simply put, D has to get better. Oh, and we have a new O coordinator.....

Saying that this defense will be "barely" Top 50 is just dumb.

If for no other reason than the schedule being exponentially easier.

They replaced Top 5 teams with FCS and Mid-Major opponents.

They should probably be in the Top 30 and 40 on defense.

No 2 ways about it though, this needs to be one of the best offenses in school history if we're talking BCS bowl game and needs to be right there with the '01 Offense if it expects to run the table.

10-2 is my prediction losses to UNC and FSU and playing in the ACCCG. 9 wins min with 19 starters back and a soft schedule Golden has no excuses this season... VT at home again, FSU later in the season, 9 games in the state of FL.. UF early and at home with a suspect offense and 7 starters lost from a 11-2 defense. Savannah st and FAU are 2 of the worst teams in DIV 1 as is USF this season with a new head coach and QB. GT at home as well and UVA at home with new coaches and both of their QB'S left the team. UNC i feel we lose to on thursday night on the road but with no Gio Bernard we have a good shot but i think we lose that one. We end the year with 2 awful teams in Duke new QB and Pitt new QB and rebuilding. Also lost both of there RB'S..

Season hinges in Porter and Pierre staying healthy, and coming up with decent backups. Hopefully Luther can keep doing what he did in the spring. I don't think there will nearly as many freshman mistakes in the back seven, mainly because there won't be as many freshmen.

Yessir. We gave up 100 yards less a game with just Porter being healthy last year.

They can and they will. I predict at worse playing for the ACC Championship game against Clemson.

Everyone is talking about 2014 and 2015, but why can't Miami win this year? They have an experienced quarterback with talent, one of the best running backs in the country, talented receivers, and pretty much their top seven or eight offensive linemen back. Defensively I have to think they will be better since they cannot be any worse; in fact I feel they will be much improved since the freshmen that were forced to play will now be sophomores. Jenkins, Crawford, Bush, Kirby, and Howard all have the potential to be all-conference. Granted, I do not think they will have a top ten defense, but top fifty or sixty is not out of the question. That should be enough to win the ACC. Florida State has to break in a new QB and V-Tech doesn't scare me. Additional, NC lost one of the conferences best players in Bernard. Clemson is probably the best on paper, but they lost key offensive players in Ellington, Hopkins and Freeman.

FAU - Win
UF - Hardest game on schedule. Winnable.
Savannah St - Slaughter
USF - Win (beat last year)
UNC - Winnable (lost by 5 last year and held that "big time offense" under 20 points)
Wake - Win
FSU - Winnable (lost by 2 TD's last year after jumping out to a 10-0 lead with a banged up Morris and Duke)
VT - Winnable (beat last year)
Duke - Win (beat last year)
Virginia - Win (no QBs to slice us up this year)
Pitt - Winnable (cold road game)

This just happens to be the easiest Canes schedule I have come across in quite some time. It would be a **** shame to get anything less than 9 wins. 10 or 11 is more likely.

Agreed! Nothing in the schedule that is daunting! Barring injuries to either Morris or duke and we could win them all fo su!

I fear the unwarranted hyping of our offense. I agree with the above poster that this offense didn't do jack **** against good defenses. This is what worries the **** outta me. All we need is to take just a slight step backwards (which is totally possible with a new OC) to go along with a slight step forward defensively, and BOOM! Similar record to last season. I just don't know fellas....I just don't know....

117th in defense will finish no higher than 50th at the high this year if lucky. can't win the close and tough games with a liability of that nature.

Finally someone who makes cents!! +rep for you

lmao

slowly starting to like you.........."as a poster"

Rok is a great guy when he's being straight forward. When he's doing his best WEZ shtick of everything sucks and Golden should've been fired after the Maryland game in year one bull****, he ******* reeks. Rok has been around the program for many years. He's as knowledgeable as they come and a smart guy. But truth be told, he views many of you here at CIS as mongloids and has been enjoying being a jackass troll to get you potatoes sprouting buds.

If he would stick to the level headed truths, he's a much cooler guy. But you guys shouldn't start sprouting a potato on top of your potato just because he tells you idiots he's a fifteen year old FIU fan. lulz

Everybody loved EJ but the facts are if ya can't be there when you're needed, then how valuable are you really? The guy had loads of potential but wouldn't get right.

It's only enough that you have talent if you play for Urban Meyer or Florida. When you play somewhere that you're held accountable, your actions outside of the field matter.

So the kid might have been an undercover 5 star gem, but you know what his final grade is? 0 stars. When ya can't be there, you count for nothing. It sucks but that's the way it is.
