Every qb who played under Whipple's on our team threw massive pics... The guy was enamored with the south Florida speed and loved the bomb... Forget safeties lining up 40 yards from the line of scrimmage... He became over confident... Harris thre lots of tds, yards and a high completion rate but he thre too many pics and the majority of them came in a hand full of games... 12 of. His pics in 09 was from like 3 games... 2010 was the same... Whip never adjusted... I'm sure he learned now...

It's close jack. Whipple was a joke. Cost us the Coastal with his abortion of a game plan against UNC in '09 and Jacory got worse from the Oklahoma game on.

And Whipple had some weapons too. Berry, Coop, Hank, Benjamin, Collier, Graham had a decent year.

Whipple was a major reason why we couldn't win the Coastal in '09 just like Donut was the reason this year and thats why they are just as bad.

Whipple was praised as a god after the FSU game that year when in reality FSU's defense was in the bottom of the league.

Everyone thought DNo was good after the UF game when in reality their O was crap

Maybe he will. But, UMass is no longer 1-FCS. It's a lot tougher now. His reputation is mostly based on his 1998 team. They won the 1-AA championship. But, some people saw him as some sort of offensive genius. That UMass team only averaged 35 ppg, so I don't understand the perception. I think Whipple's reputation exceeded his accomplishments. JMO.

That is a ridiculous statement. It makes me wonder how long you have been following this team. Whipple was a respected position coach in the NFL and college head coach before he came to UM. The only way that D'onofrio coaches in the NFL is if somehow Golden gets a head job and that is looking pretty bleak right now.

Whipple and D'Onofrio aren't in the same stratosphere. Whipple, like hurricanemike32 already stated, was a respected coach, very respected. And, at the time, came with a relatively high price tag to be OC.

One of the best parts of the Whipple hire was how adamant Ferman was that we would not hire him. :nelsonhaha: @ that dude, always wrong.

Anyhow, the fan base, for the most part, was ecstatic when he was hired.
