When you say you liked him as OC was it having Jacorry throw a late, deep interception 4 times a game or something else? Because 17 INTS is all I remember about him.Just always came across as a miserable old ***. But I liked him as an OC. Him and Shannon didn't see eye to eye either.
Spot on assessment. It's why his biggest advocates are/were NFL guys like Roethlisberger.Mark Whipple is very much an NFL style offensive coordinator. He’s not the typical college OC who relies on scheme to create numbers mismatches. He uses film of opponents to find weak spots and game plans accordingly. He knew who to target in our secondary and attacked the same guys relentlessly. His weakness gets exposed if he doesn’t have an accurate vertical passer or an offensive line that can pass protect for long periods of time. He relies a lot on play action and deep drops with slow developing routes so if you can rush the passer, he struggles to adjust his scheme.
I liked his offense. He also brought in an NFL caliber qb in Stephen Morris. He didn’t recruit Jacori. His offenses beat Clemson, FSU, Oklahoma at the time. We had worse than him for sure. Not saying he was the best. When you say you liked him as OC was it having Jacorry throw a late, deep interception 4 times a game or something else? Because 17 INTS is all I remember about him.
My issue with him was that he couldn’t seem to internalize the fact Jacorry didn’t have a big arm. It was clear the kid couldn’t make those deep throws unless TB was wide open, but he kept calling them. I feel like we could have been much better if he’d have adjusted a little bit.I liked his offense. He also brought in an NFL caliber qb in Stephen Morris. He didn’t recruit Jacori. He was stubborn I will give you that. But the arm solution was recruiting Morris . Too bad he didn’t get time with him.My issue with him was that he couldn’t seem to internalize the fact Jacorry didn’t have a big arm. It was at that precise moment that Whipple said "F this" and decided that every other play from there on out (even 3rd and 1) was going to be a play action pass attempt for at least 50 yards. **** looked like a mix of backyard football and a high school trying to set passing records. All the while Radio paced the sidelines trying to remember which star he had in his dog house that week.I've always been a huge fan of Mark Whipple. Dude is The Goods. His resume is as legit as it gets.
And the cherry on top of the Sundae is this moment captured above. Whip was calling yet another masterfully executed two minute drive, one time out remaining, he knows he needs to call one more play then call the timeout. Then BAM!!! Radio the Hed CoaRch calls a timeout for no apparent reason other than the fact that he was a ruhtard who didnt recognize competent coaching when he saw it.
Yet another classic moment of the donna ****lala era of UM football.
And the viddeo, with the dance steps and the suitts, is still coolNow ya talkig. Let it Whip. My kind of music, real music, not the BS played by the youngstas
Yup, we already saw last year what he looked like without Pickett for much of the season.Pickett leaving he knows he’s ****ed
