Where does Cam Ward rank in UM history?

I have the impression there are fans here that haven't seen the likes of Kosar, Kelly, Vinny, Erickson, Gino, Covington, and Dorsey play in person. Cam is an exceptional QB and I would rank him in the top 5. He only played one year so it's hard to place him at the top of this list. There is NO WAY you can place him #1 above Dorsey. It's comical that anyone would list him as the # 1 QB in UM history.

Tough call. The closest comp considering the D is 1984.
We shet on the schedule we played this year, and rightfully so, so that's a factor.
Bernie's schedule in '84 was crazy.
6 teams in the top 17, including a W vs #1 Auburn.
The last 3 games, we gave up 43 points per. With any kind of D that year, we go 11-2.

I have seen them play. Cam is the best I've seen. Cam would have smashed records with that 2001 team.

Its hard to compare players from other eras because of different coaching and supporting players.

For me, Cam is the best QB ever to play here. He by far had the best single season statistics by a UM QB, period. Its tough to overlook no post season play though.

One season doesnt make a career. Does he belong on the Mt.Rushmore of UM QB's? Possibly.

When I think UM QB though, Dorsey is always the first to come to mind. One natty, robbed of second one and screwed for the opportunity to play for a third one. He's also top 3 in almost every career statistical category.
This is by far the best answer on this thread. You new to CiS?

bunch of single season records bc the offense is air raid and forced throwing the ball instead of running the ball and shortening the game keeping the defense off the field and winning.
Was waiting for someone to be so wrong it hurt my Brian to read the post.

Miami threw the ball on average 38 times a game. They ran it 33 times. Those numbers are skewed by the Cal game where we threw it 53 times because we were desperately trying to come back from a 25 point deficit.

Miami was 13th in the nation in time of possession. The defense blowing donkey **** had nothing to do with being in the field too much.

Can is light years better than any quarterback we’ve had in at least 30 years. It’s really tough to compare to guys from the 70’s and 80’s because the game was so different.

If you have a good take, you're new to CIS. if you have a shifty take, you're new to CIS.
It was a good take. You hit all the relevant points, including the part about comparing across eras.

There's something disingenuous about comments that suggest we would have wiped the floor with Penn State in the 87 Fiesta Bowl with him or easily beaten ND in South Bend in 88 with him. Those are the video gamer comments that I generally try to scroll past because it doesn't account for things like air raids weren't really a thing back then, Cam's game style didn't exist back then, or a myriad of other things.

My comment about new to CiS was simply a tongue in cheek attempt at humor. Your reply was better.

Cam put up the best single season numbers of any Miami QB ever.

Cam also played against weaker competition than all the great Miami QBs of the past and the signature win of the year was beating a bad Croc team that finished the season unranked.

Both things can be true.

While I know we only got 1 year out of him. Where do you guys rank Cam Ward among all the QBs in Miami history?
You can only compare single year vs single year.

Not sure fair to say among the all-time greats....although not fair to say he isn't.

Complicated in today's new world.

I know we’d be wearing fatigues home from one particular one….he's got to be number one at least numbers wise ….if only we had a semi-decent defense
