I keep hearing brilliant or genius offensive mind getting thrown
around but the guy has been fired twice and left one team high
and dry. Dude's a cancer and Saban ran his OC off for him.

Just don't get the love affair with this guy.

I'm no fan of Lame Kiffin as a person or a head coach for that matter. Having said that, has it occured to you that it was his work as an OC that out him into position to get those gigs in the first place? That and do you really think Saban is going to hire an OC based on meritless hype and a surname?

I think the dude is a solid OC. But an offensive genius? Idk.

The offensive coordinator who replaced McElwain threw the ball too much. Alabama wanted to get back to a more physical style, especially while breaking in a new quarterback. Kiffin at Tennesee nearly upset Alabama on the road by pounding the ball at them, even though his quarterbacking was terrible. Only blocked kicks saved Alabama in that game.

Saban undoubtedly remembered that game and was impressed that an outmanned team nearly defeated him as a double digit underdog. He thinks he can take the best of Kiffin and get rid of the weak spots, like the obsession with flanker outs once he had the great receivers at USC.

I visited the USC boards today. They were mocking the hire but I fully understand it and agree with the concept. A year and a half ago, Kiffin had a preseason top ranked team despite significant scholarship limitations. It took quite a bit to get there, including an upset at Oregon as 16 point underdogs near the end of the previous season. Saban is wise enough to focus on the big picture, that it is a talented young guy and top recruiter who fell out of favor. You always want to take advantage of a situation in which someone is undervalued. Who cares if the bar stool types love to rip Kiffin? It's the same philosophy as stealing away Mario Cristobal, another coach who was highly rated at the end of the 2011 season before being canned not much later.

Saying Kiffin is a good OC for his work at USC is like saying Coker is a good coach because of what he did at UM. Had too much talent to not be successful.

the guy has been fired from every job, every time he goes to, the team ends up falling apart, but yet this **** is able to get SICK jobs.. the fact that he is able to do this I want him on my side not against me..

Coker signed a football for me once when he was giving our frat a speech, he shook my hand and said "good luck with luck" ... for the next 2 years I was trying to figure out what the hidden message was until i realized I was talking to a nut-job.

Terrible HC and stubborn but is a hard worker, charismatic, and knows the game. He is a better Asst than HC even if he has the appeal for HC.

Most of the SC fans forget the scholarship losses he was dealing with. Kiffin recruited like a god the first couple of years. Sark should not struggle too much to get them back going again.

I was thinking the same thing how hard can it be to be OC at Bama:

Ton of talent
Great oline
Great stable of backs
Great defense

Play 1 - Run
Play 2 - Run
Play 3 - play action
Touchdown

He'll go to Bama, have success, leave to be a HC and get canned again, wash, rinse, repeat. If he can check his ego and stay a coordinator I think he can be successful.

NFL name for Saban. Just a stopgap, but Roll Tide needed some pub in the news after losing the $EC championship/bowl game... Saban knows Kiffin gone after a yr or so or when Lane finds wifey legs up in Nicky boys office....

Kiffin is a sleaze douchebag......unfortunately, human beings are often attracted to the sleaze and not to the classy.

Put me in the "I thought Satan was smarter camp".

Dude is a bad coordinator. So unorganized with his play-calling. His agent man..
