Since there's no media at scrimmage, I'd like to start some offensive football talk. What personnel groupings, formations would you all like to see this season? Give me base personnel, personnel based on down and distance, and situational as well--goal line, 4 minute drill, hurry up, etc.

I think our base offense should definitely be single back, 3 wide, 1 TE.

Herb at flanker, Warlord at TE, Dorsett in the slot and Coley out wide with Duke of course in the backfield.

I'd also like to see some action with Duke in the slot matched up on a LB. He'd abuse a LB trying to cover him. Maybe throw him in the slot with Yearby in the backfield so there's still a run threat.

What are you guys hoping to see this season from the offense?

I'd personally like Dorsett at flanker giving us that deep threat on the edge, pushing a safety deep and away from the middle of the field for Walford and Lewis to do their thing there. With Coley at X.

Gray takes the snap, fakes the sweep to Berrios, runs right, pitches to Duke in the backfield who lobs it up to Akpejiori fading into the corner of the end zone for the score.

I want to see more singleback sets with 2 TEs. It creates a extra gap in the running game and you still have 4 legit receiving threats, 5 with duke. Then with the depth at WR we can swap a TE for a WR so we can take advantage of that depth. Lastly I'd like to see more compressed sets in general. Already have a ton of speed out wide so creating confusion in the secondary will only help.

I'd like to see more 4 WR single RB sets. put as many playmakers on the field as possible and put them in space where they can be successful.

You mean bunch sets or stacked WRs like FSU used a lot last season?

I agree. That's a formation we should take advantage of.

MOAR MALCOM LEWIS

Shotgun 4 wide single back set (Dorsett, Lewis, Coley, Scott, Duke)

^ Who the f*ck is going to stop that???

I'm trying to write something and I start and then change my mind because I think of something else awesome. The skill position depth across the board is insane. Coley/Dorsett/Waters/Scott/Lewis, Walford/Beau/Dobard, Duke/Yearby/Gus. I loved Hagens but I'm really excited to see what Coley does with more 2 TE sets this year.

Herb is better in the slot overall than Dorsett, but having Coley/Dorsett on the same side of the field puts so much pressure on the defense vertically. Them on one side with Walford and Herb/Scott/Beau on the other with play action to Duke can he horrifying.

Yeah. It's not like the receivers are going to have a problem getting separation but a bunch set can cause a lot of problems. Gotta actually figure out who is gunna switch where if the inside WR goes inside or outside and all sorts of confusing stuff. It can seriously mess with a inexperienced secondary.

First of all, for the 8 millionth time, Dorsett is not shifty enough to be a slot guy. That is for the Lewis / Berrios types. I actually think Coley might be our most devastating guy there, given his ability to make one guy miss and score...although he probably should be used there only in certain situations, as he is a little skinny to be going over the middle consistently.

Dorsett is pretty much a downfield threat, period.

I am actually really anxious to see Walford / Dobard on the field at the same time, with one in motion and one flexed out of the backfield. Lots of mismatches you can create there.

And of course, Duke in the slot...good luck to whichever linebacker comes over to cover him.

Bunch formations. Coley was able to slip free a few times last year and the formations worked when we used them. Really if a QB does a good job with his eyes, it's a set, with Duke having the option of staying in to block or slipping free to the other side with the TE that would create a lot of positive plays. I know it depends on good pass pro though because of slower developing routes at times but still, gotta go with our strengths. Guys like Berrios could be used here as well.

No TE's.

Waters, Coley, Dorsett, (insert 4th WR) and Duke.

That's like a ******' track team.

A TE? For what? If you have mediocre TE's then you might as well not use one at all. You're just making things easier on a DC.
Secondly, you're taking a stud WR off the field so you can use a mediocre TE. Sorry, I'm not a fan of Waters/Coley/Dorsett sitting on the sidelines so Walford can be on the field.

As a DC myself I would have nightmares trying to cover Waters, Coley, Dorsett and Scott all while stopping Duke from running the ball.

You think the line can hold up? I see what you're saying of course. I think the big problem with our line is McDermott. Maybe he has a good season but if we have to give him help all the time we are already at a disadvantage.

best part about our WRs is their different strengths. Malc has amazing hands and gets open. Dorsett is an absolute track star. Coley does everything and Herb is a mismatch. Does everything well just not to Coleys level. You get them all out there and each can play their role.

I want to see the formation that scores touchdowns and wins. Don't give 2 ***** about personnel or who is where I just wanna score and win games

Maybe if Mike Leach was our coach. Why spread out 4 wide if you have a new or inexperienced QB and your best player is your RB? We don't have a FB so if we wanna run the ball the TEs need to come in. I'd rather see walford and maybe dobard and have the receivers cycle in as needed then try and run the ball with zero help.

Dorsett isn't a Slot guy. He doesn't make catches over the middle and really isn't Shifty. Slot will be Malcom Lewis, Herb and Berrios.

Single back w Duke of course. Tucker as Hback. Waters split out wide as well as Coley with Berrios in the slot. Lots of crossing routes like we ran during our last run and slants. Utilize the middle of the field A LOT... Imagine all that speed matching up one on one!

Slot guys are allowed to run vertical routes.
