This team was never going to win the NC or the coastal. If they would have made it to the ACC Championship they would have been destroyed again or it might have been worse. This is not to argue about how poor they have played and been coached, its about goals and the only two they had a chance to achieve were the coastal and Bowl game. Much as i hate to say it FSU is one of the best two teams in the country and our beloved Canes still have a ways to go. Sure has been a lot of ****ing and moaning over a team that had no chance to win any kind of Championships.
Well, the part I bolded above is just not true. While we never were going to win the NC, to say that we were never going to win the Coastal just isn't right. Did we get into the position to control our own destiny by pulling out wins against mediocre teams in Wake and UNC? Absolutely. But, we won those games, we beat GT, and we were in a position to win the Coastal division. While it pains me to say it as a Miami fan that used to believe that bragging about winning a conference was a joke, nevertheless talk about winning a division in a conference, the opportunity we had to win the division this year would have been an accomplishment, and was a realistic accomplishment that we had in our control.
If you're okay with lowering your expectations so much that it doesn't seriously bother you that we blew that opportunity by getting blown out at home because we couldn't stop a bad VT offense, and then despite that pathetic performance, still have an opportunity to win the division by beating Duke, and proceeding to get absolutely run over by a bad Duke offense, I'm not sure there's much to discuss. We didn't not win the Coastal because we lost to a great VT team, or lost to a great Duke team, we lost the division because we got blown out by two okay teams. In year 3 under Golden, with the current players we have, there are simply no excuses for losing like that to VT or Duke. That's on the coaches and the players.
The article that Vish wrote the other day about the bigotry of lowered expectations is something you should read.
Just because many expected something like a 9 win season doesn't mean that we should be satisfied if we win 9 games. We were at 7-1 after FSU. We had the opportunity to finally win the coastal division. The teams we had left on our schedule were very beatable. We failed to reach our goals. Not sure how you can spin that as not having lost anything.
