What has the team really lost?

This team was never going to win the NC or the coastal. If they would have made it to the ACC Championship they would have been destroyed again or it might have been worse. This is not to argue about how poor they have played and been coached, its about goals and the only two they had a chance to achieve were the coastal and Bowl game. Much as i hate to say it FSU is one of the best two teams in the country and our beloved Canes still have a ways to go. Sure has been a lot of ****ing and moaning over a team that had no chance to win any kind of Championships.

I admit that the pathetically weak schedule may have diverted my attention from the fact that this team figured to be average, average, average. I should be happy at being 8-3, but honestly, I'm not. Maybe my expectations were out of kilter (lol lol, but yeah, it's true). I'm in a planning stage for my New Year's resolution. I think I'm going to try to avoid the hype as long as possible in 2014.

I'll say this though, reality is a *****.

You make no sense. You said this team was never going to win the coastal, then you say if they would have made it to the ACC Championship they would have been destroyed again. To make it to the ACCG they would have had to have won the coastal. So WTF are you saying?

Let's pretend you meant win the NC or the ACC. Who cares? Just because we'd likely get pounded by FSU we should accept sucking? We should accept being embarrassed on our home field by a mediocre VT team with a pathetic offense with everything on the line? We should accept giving up 358 yards rushing to Duke? Duke!?!?! With everything on the line?

The soft *** coastal was the minimum...

They had it, lost it, had it again, and lost it again!

This thread is embarrassing. Are you a football fan? New to football? Do you know the history we have?

You clearly don't know the depths of mediocrity we're swirling in. We might be the worst 8-3 team I've ever seen.

Put down your lucky charms rainbows and all the other happy horse****.

We got blown out by DUKE for the COASTAL CROWN.

Re-read that sentence 10 times and go slap yourself in the face.

Lol chill out badass

Better question would be is why don't i slap you in the face as many times as i like? Have you seen this team play? They easily could have lost to Wake,GT,North Carolina and have a losing record. This team never had the talent as you can see in the many posts on this board to be better than the worst 8-3 team you have ever witnessed. By the way you will be wrong again, Duke will lose to NC this weekend and VT will beat Hoos and Tech will be playing in the ACC Championship.

We stink. It's what happens when you're forced to depend on mediocre talent to run a mediocre scheme. Once the talent and scheme get fixed we won't stink anymore. The talent is coming by the boatload in a few months. The scheme needs work but better talent is the trump card.

I think what the OP was trying to say is, when the season started most posters on here were predicting 8-9 wins this year. Irrespective of how bad we looked playing traditionally weak teams like Duke and Wake, this is the record we have now. So, the "sky is falling" that many posters are screaming now for achieving what most of them predicted at the beginning of the season is irrational.

Regardless, it is very frustrating because we all were hoping for things to go our way and the team to over achieve.

This is why there is so much fighting on this board. I have yet to see ONE PERSON claim to be happy with the defense or with losing to VT and Duke, or with missing out on the Coastal, etc. We're ALL disappointed with it. It's just that some people feel like they have to keep complaining and keep insulting other posters, while others trust that the head coach, of all people, sees the problems more than anyone here. I guess my question is - since no one is happy with the second half of the season - who exactly are you trying to convince?

Well, the part I bolded above is just not true. While we never were going to win the NC, to say that we were never going to win the Coastal just isn't right. Did we get into the position to control our own destiny by pulling out wins against mediocre teams in Wake and UNC? Absolutely. But, we won those games, we beat GT, and we were in a position to win the Coastal division. While it pains me to say it as a Miami fan that used to believe that bragging about winning a conference was a joke, nevertheless talk about winning a division in a conference, the opportunity we had to win the division this year would have been an accomplishment, and was a realistic accomplishment that we had in our control.

If you're okay with lowering your expectations so much that it doesn't seriously bother you that we blew that opportunity by getting blown out at home because we couldn't stop a bad VT offense, and then despite that pathetic performance, still have an opportunity to win the division by beating Duke, and proceeding to get absolutely run over by a bad Duke offense, I'm not sure there's much to discuss. We didn't not win the Coastal because we lost to a great VT team, or lost to a great Duke team, we lost the division because we got blown out by two okay teams. In year 3 under Golden, with the current players we have, there are simply no excuses for losing like that to VT or Duke. That's on the coaches and the players.

The article that Vish wrote the other day about the bigotry of lowered expectations is something you should read. Just because many expected something like a 9 win season doesn't mean that we should be satisfied if we win 9 games. We were at 7-1 after FSU. We had the opportunity to finally win the coastal division. The teams we had left on our schedule were very beatable. We failed to reach our goals. Not sure how you can spin that as not having lost anything.

Their balls.

Thanks, Dorito.

Seriously, the D sets the tone, and right now it sets a very soft tone.

Find me a poster who said to be happy with a 9 win season or with the performance of our team. Expected a 9 win season? Most of us did that. Happy to see how we played lately? None of us is.

We've lost any sense of progress. Which means we've lost hope.

Anyone content with a season where we get blown out by two mediocre teams with the Coastal on the line both teams and get 500 hung on us every week is a fcking loser. Lean forward and choke yourselves.

Really? That's what you took out of this thread? The OP basically stated that we should have set lower goals, winning the Coastal and going to a bowl game, not even winning the ACC, just the Coastal. That's pathetic. To not even have a goal of winning the conference? Give me a break. I'm not delusional. I wasn't thinking national title, but before everyone knew how good FSU was, you're **** right my goal was to not just win the Coastal, but to win the ACC title. And to have "going to a bowl" as a goal at the University of Miami? Get out of here. Aside from years we have been ineligible due to NCAA crap, 1981, 1995, 2011 and 2012, Miami has missed a bowl 3 times in 33 years because of on the field performance (1982, 1997, 2007). Going to a **** bowl, when going 6-6 and finishing 9th in the ACC gets you into a freaking bowl should not be a **** goal. Winning the Coastal can be a goal, but even that's sad since the Coastal is one of the most pathetic divisions in all of the BCS conferences.

Our goal this year should have been to win the **** ACC. Instead, barring a miracle, we're not even winning the freaking ****** convention, err...the Coastal.

Lastly, if Golden, whom I still support (for now) insults our intelligence, and says how proud he is of the team for going to the Belk Bowl or the Russell Underwear Bowl, I will throw up.

It is extremely frustrating reading people try and rationalize losses to Virginia Tech and god**** Duke.

Pussies. If you're not ****ed about the way this season has unfolded then kill yourself.

There's another UM football office shill poster sent here to dumb down the fans' expectations. Didn't start posting until the team **** the bed. Where were all these guys when we were 7-0?
