As a fan, what can we do to change this? Not show up at the games? Don't renew our season tickets. What can we do to send a message?

I am not going lie. I hopelessly believe any coach thats become HC is going to succeed(except coker). I always give the benefit of the doubt the can turn it around, but after the VT and Duke game(probably Virginia to). I just have no hope let.

When the canes lose, that would ruin my weekend. I care that much, but last year I told myself that maybe I should step back a little from canes football. Like a lot of you on this board I am starting become numb to it. After duke went up 38-30, I cut the tv off and got dress went to dinner with my lady.

It didnt even phase me. It like I already expected it. Sure I was furious during the game. I mean everytime Morris drops back I cringe and get nervous, or when the defense gets in a third down situation I almost expect the other team to covert. Sad, I know...I even call the corret plays the opposing is about run on us.

But I guess years of medioracty can do that to you. Does make me a *********? Am I wrong knowing everytime we get a big stage or something meaning to play for we will fall flat.

What can we do?

Fans are going to do what any consumers of entertainment products do.

Not show up at the games? - Mission accomplished if that's a goal. (watch this Saturday)
Don't renew season tickets? - I think empty seats is leading indicator for future sales.

This is the first time in my life as a Canes fan I lost all hope in this team and program.

Even during the probation years and when Radio was corch, I knew we sucked but I still had hope.

I just don't understand how it got this bad. I mean, all a team has to do to get a 1st down is run a play. That is hard to watch.

I'm not ready to throw in the sponge on Golden. He's got a lot of the qualities of a good head coach. But it is becoming clear that some things have to change. He's in year three of a rebuild. It will be an interesting offseason, once again, for the program.

I thought Al was the guy to resurrect UM football. He seemed to do everything right (except win games, but I could justify that as a function of not having enough talent). At this point, I am beginning to believe that Al is not the guy to resurrect UM football. It looks like the wheels have come off the wagon in the last couple of weeks, but the signs were there for several weeks with desultory performances against UNC and Weak Florist.

As I write this post, I have a feeling of Deja Vu as I think I felt the same way with Butch Davis. Butch seemingly turned his fortunes at UM when he fired Bill Miller and hired MonkeyBoy. I am not one to call for anyone's job, but it is clear that the bulk of UM's problems are on the defensive side of the ball. It is time for Al to make a move and do something to rectify this horrendous defense, and I think he will need to make a change at the DC spot. I'm sorry to write this Coach D, but you are failing miserably and dragging the program to new lows.

I am with you big man. I believed Al could do it and would be the one to bring us back. He got us through some rough times that we're out of his control (NCAA). The issue is with the way the team has played for the past X games, it seems like even though we were scrapping by things were beginning to be evident.

IMO, bringing in the right DC and letting them coach could save his chances at UM.

The good news is Al is bringing in a lot of good players, whether people believe it or not. His first real class (2012) is now going to be juniors next season. There is a lot to work with on D. The other good news is we're finally past the NCAA BULL SHlT.

IMO, Al is a smart man who knows that he needs to make a change. If he wants a long time career in coaching he will think what's best for him and make the change.

Speak with your wallet (i.e., let the know you will not be renewing tickets and that you will not be donating till the defense gets fixed), and voice your displeasure as publicly as possible (i.e., banners, signs at games, loud booing of the defense, etc.). If enough people do both of those things, UM will at least try to get it fixed.

As we have found out time and time again, though, there's no guarantee that it will get fixed by merely scapegoating assistants or even by firing the HC. We've done both numerous times over the last decade, and neither has panned out.

If Corch Al doesn't see that his defense is a complete abortion and needs a total overhaul, then, frankly, he's retarded and needs to GTFO. Despite his public comments, he HAS to see that this is completely unacceptable. The question is: Will he do an honest self-evaluation, gut this busted philosophy of his, hire a new DC who runs an aggressive, attacking defense and does so with proven skill and results, and leaves the defense wholly in the new DC's hands? If he does this, then at least he will be giving himself a chance to succeed even though I question his ability to lead this program back to greatness no matter who he fires. If he doesn't, then he stands no chance and will become an enemy of UM that the fans must get rid of.

We don't show to games now. Let's keep not showing and give other schools more **** to say about our team and fan base to our recruits. I bought my season tickets and I will be at the games. Win or lose I'm a canes fan! We suppose to be family (that's what makes us different then all the other schools), family don't walk out when the chips are down. If you don't like what's going on show up make a banner, yell at coach D, or chant we want a new DC. To not show up in the bad times is front running. Either with us or against us. We don't care about nothing but this U!

Corches ain't my family. UM is. UM above all else. Corches come and go. UM remains. All I care about is what's best for UM, and junking this deplorable and disgraceful defense is what's best for UM.

OP it is tough to answer that question. You got to do what is best for you. This fan base doesn't really get together to do things constructively, look at the UF game and wear white (i.e. white out). Our fans do what they want, when they want.

I have been a fan since I enrolled in 2003. I never thought my best season would be my first and we haven't had anything close since then. I was never a part of the glory years, I was never around for national championships or dominance. I had a helping of dog SHlT with Coker, a bigger helping with Randy and now I believe I am still being fed.

I am going to ride this out and give Al another season IF he bringing in some new faces on the defensive side of the ball. As for renewing my season tickets and donation, I will still keep that going because I am stupid (assuming a change is not made).

The school:I don't believe anything will be done this season or next season because of the NCAA mess. Barring a total meltdown next season, I believe Al will be given till 2015. With that in my head, I will be hoping for the best because I don't think much difference will be made with Coach D running the D.

So you turn your back on the players like Howard, Duke and others who came here when they could have gone elsewhere and been playing infront of sellout crowds and big bowl games in their 2nd year. I don't goto games for coaching. I go for the players and the school I'm proud to be from. I will boo and yell at all the coaches I'm not happy with. I will let them know it's their fault not hold it against our players or our university

How are we turning our back on them? If anything we are concerned that they are not receiving the coaching they need.

You all are looking for a built in excuse on why you don't attend games, so when you jump back on the wagon it doesn't look as bad.
