As much as I would love him down here on the 18th if he is done with the playoffs, I am concerned.

1. Will the NCAA be watching twitter closely that day? I can imagine some current recruits getting pictures with him then tweeting it. Is that a violation?

2. Is he allowed to talk to recruits? As a group, can he casually talk to them or is that forbidden? What about talking individually?

3. In 2013 say Ray Sr. attends a home game, can he casually talk to a possible 2014 recruit who "bumps" into him?

Lots of scenarios.

Anyone know what the deal is?

plus OV's are the one time a university is allowed to splurge on a recruit. Steak and lobster while put up in a penthouse on SoBe for days...

Because his son is a recruit he's free game while he's there.

The NCAA will not allow Ray Lewis Sr. to help recruit other players. Only the ten coaches may do the recruiting but the recruits can meet others in the athletic Dept and even Donna if they are on campus. Don't think the NCAA has a rule for taking pictures or saying hello with other recruits and their parents even if they are famous.

If another recruit crosses path with Ray Lewis say on South Beach it would have to be a coincident or it would be a violation if UM planed the meeting.

So you're saying that the parents of players can't talk to the recruits?

not sure if that's true. It'd be like any parent who is an alum talking to kids about going to the school they went to

Ray Sr can't be directed by the U to recruit players but what we he says and does while he's on campus is his business.

Whois,
I think they've put limits on some of the overspending on recruits visits. It's not carte blanche. Im sure they can do the chart house and things like that. To my knowledge, they were never put up in penthouses on sobe. They were put up in that one nice hotel in coconut grove.
Im sure pics w ray are fine. I'm sure he's allowed to have conversations w kids as a celebrity. He can mingle and talk. Ne isn't and probably doesn't want to sit there and recruit for al and staff. He prob just wants to be a parent.

IMO he is 100% wrong.

He should also post IMO or provide a source.

Just an FYI, celebs have kids too. They are real people and they deserve the same privileges as other parents sending their kids to school.

Read the last part...."Don't think the NCAA has a rule for taking pictures or saying hello with other recruits and their parents even if they are famous."

Last I checked Baltimore Ravens and Ray Lewis are still in the playoff and he may not be coming if they keep winning.

He is a parent and if other parents are there he can be there. If he wants to tell other parents that UM is a good place in the hotel lobby then that is ok too.

Someone in the compliance department is charged with reading and re-reading the bylaws before January 18th.

So parents aren't allowed to speak to the recruits on the visit besides a Hello? I'm just trying to milk your expertise on the issue.

He's a parent. He can accompany his kid on an OV.

Absolutely. However, if he is a booster than he cannot actively recruit or pay for anything in regards to other parents or recruits.

Boosters have nothing to do with it. No one but the ten football coaches can recruit any player. The recruits do go out with players on the UM football team with a Official Recruiting Visit as a Host to show them the city and that is allowed contact by the NCAA. If we have a recruit that tells another kid he wants him to come to UM at a All-Star game that ok also since the kid hasn't signed his LOI with Miami yet.

Ray Lewis will be treated like any other parent by the NCAA rules but UM can't direct Ray to help them recruit any kid.
