That's a bit of a stretch.

It's definitely a hard sell to get the small handful of top-100 players to view UM as a premiere destination. It's not like we've sent a lot of players to the NBA, or have a storied tradition, or that we can even guarantee a packed arena most games. We have a total of what, 3 sweet-16 appearances? When you're in the echelon of players who can choose from among UNC, Duke, or other historically top-tier program, UM isn't quite in that league.

Also, we don't have the benefit of being located in a consistent hotbed of local HS b-ball talent. That's how we made our bones in both football and baseball--by cultivating the top-tier home-grown kids who were always leaving the area to go to other big-name schools. We can't depend on that same approach for b-ball.

Yes, we're a great school in a great conference in a great city. But that only gets you so far. We've still got to string several years of success together, or have a miracle run to the top, before we can consistently recruit against the top-tier teams.
