Week 3 Stat Roll

We have a difference maker at quarterback. I know the roster is really good pretty much across the board but Cam makes this team a legit championship contender.

Cam’s national passing stats:

Yards per game - 4th
Completion percentage - 12th
Passer rating - 4th
Yards per attempt - 4th
TD passes per game - 1st
QBR - 1st
PAA - 1st
EPA- 1st

Yeah. I’d say that makes a difference.

Crack a beer, say bye-bye to that belt, cause this is gonna be a fun read.

Here we go...full stat roll through Week 3. As always, these numbers are only for FBS vs FBS competition. So, Miami only has a 2 game sample size. Obviously not enough to go totally ballistic, but the vast majority of this is incredibly encouraging.

Offense:

Yards per play: 1st (9.14 YPP) -- Some context: 2023 LSU averaged 8.49 YPP. 2019 LSU averaged 7.82.
Yards per game: 2nd (639.5 YPG)
Points per game: 3rd (51.5 PPG)
Passing yards per game: 1st (446 YPG) -- Ole Miss is ranked #2.....59 yards per game behind. Gap between 1 and 2 is bigger than the gap between 2 and 14.
Passing completion percentage: 7th (73.7%)
Passing yards per attempt: 4th (11.7 YPA)
Passer rating: 3rd (208.72)
Passing TDs: 3rd (9 TDs) -- Both teams with more have played 1 more game than us (Texas with 13, Pitt with 10)
Rushing yards per game: 30th (193.5 YPG)
Rushing yards per attempt: 12th (6.05 YPA)
Rushing TDs: 39th (4)
Sacks given up per game: 15th (0.5 per game)
3rd down conversion %: 10th (57.1%)
4th down conversion %: 1st (100%, 1 for 1 on the season)
TFLs allowed per game: 2nd (2.0 per game)
Red Zone TD %: 74th (54.5% TD rate, 6 TDs in 11 chances)
Red Zone Scoring %: 52nd (10 scores in 11 chances)
Field goal %: 39th (6 for 7)
PAT %: 1st (19 for 19)
10+ Yard Scrimmage Plays: 7th (46) Ole Miss and Arkansas are the only 2 teams that have more 10+ yard plays and have also played 2 games
20+ Yard Scrimmage Plays: 1st (26) The next FIVE teams on the list have all played an extra game. The next team with 2 gms only has 16 such plays (Ole Miss)
30+ Yard Scrimmage Plays: 3rd (9) Bama and Texas only teams above us, both have played 1 extra game
40+ Yard Scrimmage Plays: 20th (3)

Defense:

Yards per play allowed: 7th (3.55 YPP) Note that this is a great number, just small sample for other teams. 3.55 for a season would've been #1 last yr by a mile.
Points per game allowed: 9th (8.5 PPG) Same as above, 8.5 PPG allowed for a season would have been 1st last year by a wide margin.
Passing yards per game allowed: 9th (115.5 YPG) Would be #1 by a mile for a full season
Passing completion percentage allowed: 35th (55.2%)
Passing yards per attempt: 4th (4.0 YPA) Again, #1 by a mile for a full season
Passer rating allowed: 5th (78.29) Again, #1 by a mile for a full season
Rushing yards per game allowed: 15th (72.5 YPG)
Rushing yards per attempt allowed: 29th (3.02 YPA)
Sacks per game: 14th (3.5 sacks per game)
3rd down % allowed: 1st (9.52% allowed) --LOL. UiF and Ball So Hard State combined 2/21 on 3rd down
4th down % allowed: 27th (33% allowed)
TFLs per game: 13th (8.5 per game) 8.5 a game would be a Top 5 number in the country any year
Red Zone td % allowed: 124th (100% allowed -- 1 TDs in 1 chance) Only 6 FBS teams have only given up 1 RZ opportunity, and 3 of those have played 1 game.
Red Zone Scoring % allowed: 90th (100% allowed -- 1 scores in 1 chance)
Punting: 11th (47.7 Yard average)
10+ Yard Scrimmage Plays allowed: 25th (18)
20+ Yard Scrimmage Plays allowed: 7th (2) Allowed 18 plays of 10+ yards and only TWO of 20+ yards
30+ Yard Scrimmage Plays allowed: 11th (1)

Team Stats:

Penalties: 29th (5 penalties per game)
Penalty yards: 70th (55.5 Yards per game)
Turnover margin: 21st (1 per game -- 3 takeaways, 1 giveaway)
Time of possession: 15th (33:44 per game)
Number of offensive plays: (Avg 70 plays per game)

Takeaways:

Just absolutely absurd. Truly. You cannot play better football than we've played so far against the 2 FBS teams. 41-17 and 62-0. Total domination in every single stat. We've given up 2 third down conversions. We've given up 1 red zone trip. Cam Ward is literally the Heisman front runner. We're allowing FOUR yards every time an opponent throws, and that's when he gets the ball off, because we're 14th in the country in sacks, and this is without the best edge player in the conference playing more than 4 snaps. A MARIO CRISTOBAL LED FOOTBALL TEAM IS LEADING THE COUNTRY IN PASSING YARDS PER GAME.

I won't go on forever, because 1) It's gonna last WAY longer than 4 hours and 2) We've played 2 complete buttcheeks thus far. None of this means ****, in the grand scheme. We know the gator is a flaming diaper. I didn't even know Ball was a state. So, we have a long way to go here. But you can't just simply ignore this, either. Because we've played a lot of pansy teams in our day, and it very rarely looks like THIS. Complete domination in every single aspect.

USF, your stinkhole is next.

Go Canes.
One that jumped out at me ... In two games against fbs competition our opponents have gotten to our twenty yard line 1x. That's salty.

We'll know a lot more real soon because they play Clemson on Saturday.
I was a despicable glutton of all things college football week 1 and saw them playing Louisiana Tech

I wanted to check them out and keep an eye on Concepcion. Kinda chalked it up to week 1 type stuff but they didn’t look good

Then the Tennessee game happened

But the ACC lulls you to sleep for sure next thing you know teams looks great somehow

Apologies if I missed it but has anyone posted our YAC stats?

To me this feels night and day different with this team. Not sure if the stats reflect it or not or if I’m just tripping. The QBs putting the ball on the money to let playmakers keep going. The receivers have been breaking tackles etc

The 3rd down defense stat is truly nuts. If we keep that up it’s going to be hard for team to beat us. My biggest concern remains red zone TDs…that has to be elite to win in tight games. Otherwise we need explosives to score and that’s not always sustainable. I think Ward’s running ability will be the difference.

I like our personnel when the field gets tighter but I agree. Can’t go by much so far but these next few games should show us a bit more
