I think there’s 2 points here
1 as Guidry mentioned, opposing offenses do things they haven’t shown on tape. We’ve seen several trick plays.

2 opposing teams know if they don’t score often enough, our offense will blow them away so they pull out all the stops to try an score themselves.

He must be opposed to playing zone in the first half. Playing zone would cut down on chunk plays, misdirection plays and trick plays.

I think the defensive players play harder in the second half as well when the oressure is really on. I have no way to prove this but it feels like execution improves 2nd half.
