Wednesday Buzz Column

Kirby is the key to our linebackers. We know what Denzel is going to bring and outside of that we have a lot of young, unproven talent. Figs could be a beast and Grace will make some plays but we need another steady playmaker back there that can withstand the physical beating, especially with an underwhelming DL. Kirby has all the tools, the size, he just has to be comfortable out there which he was anything but last year. He has as much talent as DP, just doesn't have as much natural instinct, but if he can get near Denzel's level, all of the sudden our LB core can be a strength.

Still need to see one of these guys show they can cover someone.

The LB core is the key for success in this system

Generally positive column until you read that nobody beat out Moore. I don't know for the life of me why the fascination with juco's.

I'm excited to see Carter and Grace get increased reps, should be huge upgrades over Gaines and Highsimth/Rodgers.

Addition by subtraction (Green, Highsmith, Rogers, Cornelius and Gaines are gone).

Shayon Green had a very good season and he was easily Miami's most (and maybe only) reliable lineman on first and second down. The guy finished third in total tackles and first in tackles for a loss. He blew Chickillo away in total tackles and he missed a game.

I am not trying to disrespect him, I think we have upgraded in talent at DE. I think the upgraded talent will be an addition as well.

Shayon is a good dude but he provided little pass rush (maybe not his fault). Just because he had the most tackles/TFLs doesn't mean much because I thought the group of talent combined with the coaching was suspect. We will see quickly if he is missed at DE.

Green and Chickillo were also being asked to different things. Green often stood up at the line and was asked to get to the ball.
Chickillo is never going to be the guy many of us, myself included, thought he would be but he's a better football player than S. Green.

Grace is interesting....he and Coach D have a love hate relationship at practice..sounds like the LB spots are still very open and competitive at this juncture..
Thats a good thing

The whole team.. every player should be on edge, every week, about starting.

Green has become an unnecessary punchline for most people on the board, but he did have a pretty good season last year considering his athletic limitations.

Dude had cybernetic implants for knees and somehow managed to lead the team in TFL (yes, on a historically bad defense, but still...) I think he performed as well or better than anyone could reasonably expect from him given his circumstances.

We are finally back to having athletes at every position on defense, we still don't have depth though. Hopefully we'll have some breakthroughs and frsshman who can provide that.

Shayon Green is a Cane Warrior as far as I'm concerned. He gave every ounce of talent and effort he could. He has a special place for me.

Agreed. It's not his fault he had to play so many snaps. Can't fault a guy for his lack of physical ability. Green maximized what he had to work with. Can't ask anything more of a kid.

Don't let anyone touch your special place without your permission.

For real tho Green was a warrior. You are spot on.

I never questioned his heart and dedication, he simply wasn't good enough to start 2 season for the Miami Hurricanes. I don't mean to disrespect Shayon, but he played because our depth on the DL was laughable.

Can't argue with that.
