We can’t afford to hire patke

Is this over Briggs? Y’all played yourselves if you ever thought he was coming.

no idea why we kept going after him. He admitted he was always going to fsu. Plus, the kid I don’t see fitting in at UM. Doesn’t seem like someone who is going to fit in with nesta, ford, and gerald willis.

Legitimate, national championship contending programs are making power moves with their 10th coaching hires. If we want the CFB landscape to take us seriously, we can’t elevate an unproven quality control coach; we need to make a big hire.

Patke seems like a good guy and I hope he stays on the staff in some capacity, but this is business.

What 10th coach hire has been a "power" move ?

Lol where are all these power moves at?? And college football is going to take us seriously depending on our 10th coach?? They will take us serious when we continue to kick *** on the recruiting trail and win games. I don't know any teams/programs shook up because of who some team hired as their 10th coach.

I was away the last 12 hours and search twitter but may have missed it. Did we lose Briggs?

We need a proven coach/ recruiter period ,not some inexperienced guy. Save me that bullsh*t, “ but Hartley was inexperienced”, no the fvck he wasn’t, he coached at Marshall and brought a bunch of kids in and was the recruiting coordinator at uga so he knows what he is doing. Our offensive coaches are elite recruiters, the defense needs help

If you can’t recruit at a high level with the number of losses we have on dline and just on the defense in general then patke ain’t saving sh*t.... we need help on that side of the ball bad. For as much sh*t you all give rumph he has recruited his position the best this cycle on defense with a chance to add to it. Everyone on that side of the ball needs to step it up.

Maybe we should hire you as a coach since you have all the answers

I can't believe I'm saying this but I miss the old Brock

Blind optimistic Brock was better Better than blind pessimistic brock

So if Patke becomes the best defensive recruiter we have you still can't afford it ? C'mon.

Y’all be hanging on Brock’s ******* every thread...he’s not that bad and yeah I agree with you on that if Patke Water can’t help us close on these remaining recruits we can’t give him the job permanently. Go hire somebody’s who’s proven already

No. He got crystal balls to FSU, and the earth stopped spinning.

I don't know if Rumph "recruited" as much as just being lucky that 2 of his 3 targets were Cane Legacy. The other had a small offer sheet and was probably being recruited the most by us.

Who ivey? Auburn, South Carolina, uga both offered in July and we just closed his recruitment down

A few things:

1. I agree that keeping the staff as is and hiring Patke would be an atrocious move. It doesn't make sense on any level. In general, bringing in Patke to be a coach doesn't make sense.

2. We have tremendous issues with the actual coaching on offense. We also have issues with special teams. This doesn't mean the defense is perfect, nobody is suggesting that. It just means, in terms of priority, those are the areas we should fix first. This also doesn't mean recruiting doesn't need help but given this exact staff just landed a top 5 class, perhaps there are higher areas of concern.

3. Our staff today has strengths but there are numerous concerns. This was not a championship caliber staff:

- Jon Richt has a coaching position, even though no real program would hire him, this is one less coach we can employ. His son, like Patke, should be a quality assistant.
- You have two coaches coaching DBs, that isn't necessary.

So basically you have dead weight and that is before we add a coach. If it is Patke, or a defensive coach in general, there still is no one to help Richt coach his offense. In addition, why would anyone expect special teams to change much?

4. Given Coach Kul's track record at developing DL, the guy deserves the benefit of the doubt that he will be able to get the most out of what he has in front of him. This doesn't mean we shouldn't bring in great DL talent, it just means there are higher areas of concern.

Excellent post.

The 10th spot should be going to a veteran offensive mind.
