Walford to turn Pro?

If he goes then he goes... I like Sandland and I think Williams and Olsen, especially Williams likes to throw to the TE. Dobard is still there for the second role and then you have McDonald and Herndon coming in... we good at that position. I think he will realize later when he see's Miami playing and Sandland having a superb season that he made a mistake... but I wish yhe best for him...

It's easy to say what a kid should do. **** has a infant and needs to provide. Guys like Clive should know his time to make good money in the NFL is limited so the sooner the better. If he gets injured he may never make it. If he can make a squad as a active player now I don't blame him for coming out. League minimum for active players is 420k. Hang on a few years and he's making over 600k. That's chump change for the NFL, but a VERY good living by almost anyones standards. He can risk injury next year and gamble on maybe improving his draft stock to make a little more, but that's risky as ****. Lamar Miller makes 480k base salary, barely above the minimum, and he was a high 3rd round pick.

the horrible decision would be if he makes it before hearing from the advisory board.

If it comes back in his favor who are we to judge, the guy has a family to support. If it comes back weak then he needs to spend 1 more year and get his stock up.

He already made up his mind, he isn't going to make a decision during the game without talking to his family and the fact that its before he got his evaluation I am going to guess he stays 1 more year

Ronald. He seems like a bit of a clown, but the staff, especially golden, Dorito, and kehoe, like his product.

Late round pick or free-agent at best. Not talking a lot of money, either way. At this point, he'd be smart to stay and receive an extra year of education and further enhance his draft status next fall.

Warlord needs more work on catching the football consistently, would be a mistake to leave early.

Enhance his status to what? Mid-third round at best? The difference in money is not as great as you think.

For everyone who is criticizing Clive for contemplating turning pro please keep this in mind:

-He only played 1 year of football in High School

Was a basketball player for 3 years

Commited to Miami in July 22, 2009

Signed with the U on 2/3/2010

-He worked hard to transform from a 6’4” 220 lb basketball player to a 259 lb TE

-He had a son with his fiancé Aneliz on Aug 2, 2013

-He already graduated from the U this month!

-Last year 19 TE were invited to the NFL combine.
-16 TE were drafted
-6 were drafted in the first 3 rounds (Tyler Eifert , Zach Ertz, Gavin Escobar, Vance McDonald, Travis Kelce, Jordan Reed)
-6 of the first 8 TE taken were rJRs including the first 3.

Size:
Clive has the physical measurements of a solid NFL TE at 6’4 and 259. However, his body fat increased from 15.8 to 19.2, and he's put on close to 10 pounds prior to the 2013 season. Asante Cleveland reduced his body fat from 14.9 percent to a trim 11 percent at 6’5” 260.

Strength:
Clive did 24 reps of 225 at the U last year. This would have put him at #2 at last year’s NFL combine behind McDonald who had 31 reps.

Speed:
If Clive can still run a 4.6 like he claimed in HS and his freshmen year at the U, then he would have been the second fastest TE in the draft. Eifert, the fastest of the first 8 TE selected ran a 4.68. He does not look like a 4.6 guy on film.

Stats:
His numbers dropped a little from 2012 to 2013 although he started more games. He had 5 more catches in 2013 and started 6 more games, but, he had 79 less yards and 2 less TD while averaging 5.6 yards less per catch in 2013. Some of this is due to Morris’s drop in production and not checking down as much to the TEs. His number could go up next year with a better game manager in Williams.

WALFORD CAREER STATISTICS
SEASON G-GS REC YDS AVG TD LG
2011 12-8 18 172 9.6 1 25
2012 12-5 25 451 18.0 4 65
2013 12-11 30 372 12.4 2 36

I think if Clive declares for the NFL draft and trains hard for the next couple of month, he could work his way into the first 3 rounds of the drafts. He will need to run in the 4.6 range as before and show that he can be a good receiving TE with a good frame and athletic ability. I would like to see him stay one more year and help us get to the ACCCG but I’m not sure that will happen. Either way I wish him the best of luck and am happy that he made the most of his opportunity at the U.

People tend to forget that he played basketball in high school and only played football during his senior year. He came to the U as a 6’4 220 freshman project who could not bench 225 lbs. He has worked hard and came a long way from where he started. We got more production out of him than most people expected. He had a son in August and graduated in December. I have no problem with him trying to figure out what is best for him and his family.

I think he's too stiff and inconsistent even if he was a senior. I've seen him live multiple times and the added weight really took away from his basketball background. UNC TE is a potential late 1st and Walford isnt even in the same galaxy as him.
