Hiring coker and Shannon MADE Beamer.
Not really, Frank Beamer was "made" before Coker and Shannon, he's a good coach that has had success no matter who was at Miami. Virginia Tech had a lot of success during Butch Davis' tenure. They had two 10 win and two 11 win seasons during that time, with a trip to the Orange Bowl and two trips to the Sugar Bowl (including playing for the national title against FSU after the 99 season). During Coker's six years, Virginia Tech only went to one BCS Bowl (Sugar Bowl after the 04 season; 3 loss team that year). The four years Shannon was the head coach, Virginia Tech definitely benefited, going to the Orange Bowl three times. Golden's first season at Miami saw Virginia Tech go to the Sugar Bowl.
