I know the new "victory fund" has been discussed but this is what the $7 mil they are trying to raise is going to go towards. Apparently these are all "shovel ready" projects. I thought it was interesting - just passing it along.

Artificial In-Fill Lighted Practice Surface
The installation of an alternative artificial practice surface will provide a much needed resource for our football program. With this surface, we will install new field lighting that will allow our football program to practice at night, and provide increased flexibility in practice scheduling. Additionally, this field will ease wear on our natural grass fields and will simulate game surfaces in 30% of ACC Stadiums.

Athletic Training Table-Dining Hall
The Student –Athlete Training Table will be a newly constructed 3,200 sq/ft specialized dining facility. This dining facility will be used by our 400+ student-athletes, and will be organized and designed to optimize their dietary needs. Featuring over 170 seats and modernized U branding, this dining facility will provide proper nutritional supervision and guidance tailored specifically to each student-athlete which will maximize his or her peak performance.

Football Recover Zone
The construction of the Football Recovery Zone will consist of four Polar Pools capable of holding 14 student-athletes per pool. These state-of-the-art cold pools are necessary for the hot and humid climate of South Florida. They provide a safe, sanitary and efficient alternative to traditional cryotherapy, allowing our student-athletes to effectively cool down and recover after intense workouts and practices.

Tough crowd around here.

That's great for the high schools. But we don't have it. So we can either continue to mock ourselves and criticize the attempt to improve or we can put our money where our mouths are and contribute to the fund and be part of the solution.

I believe his point is the school should be funding this. The merchandising alone brings the U a lot of money. They should be investing in the athletic programs, specifically the football program. I know its hip on here to say we can't afford this and that, but that is pure BS. If Shalala put her money raising skills on the football program we would be impressed.

The mockery here is amusing. $7 million, SEC sneezes $7 million on prospects alone. We need a $100 million dollar campaign for athletics and that's in addition to the stadium we desperately need. Think that's too much? Texas A&M is doing a $400 million renovation on their stadium alone. And that's the tip of the cot dam iceberg in the SEC.

that's not how it works. unless the university has money donated directly to athletics or they raise the athletic fee, they cannot use the university's general funds for athletics. you can lose federal and state funding over that (yes, we receive both, just not as much state money as the state schools). the athletic department already gets the money from the collegiate licensing company over use of the logo. what you have to realize is that football and basketball are the only 2 sports that make money and they have to cover the expenses of 14 other sports and all of their athletes. the department is really poor compared to most major d1 schools. the reason that alabama, fsu, and lsu have such good funding isn't because the university pours money into them, it's because they take in all of the revenue from their home stadiums and their boosters throw insane amounts of cash at them. that's why booster associations hold so much power over the athletic departments.

Pretty pathetic and telling about where Miami stands in the landscape of big-time college football. The SEC and bulk of major programs, especially state schools, eclipse Miami what it comes to facilities. Our latest wish-list is standard at these places and they're not out having to beg for cold tubs or a turf field.

I know that, hence the victory fund. My point is this should have been around a lot longer. Shalala is excellent at raising funds. It is one of the reasons she was hired.

But now there is a fund to support athletics and people are *****ing because it is not $100 million or include a plan for Cowboy's Stadium on the lake.

Cool, let's keep complaining instead of trying to address the problems one at a time. Yes they should have had, but they didn't, now they address it, people *****. Way to go, quite helpful.

we should knock down the Schwartz center because it was 10 years too late and not the most premiere in the country......
