Versatility could be key for Canes secondary

I agree with you. In terms of how the nickel back is used in the classic sense vs slot WR, RBs and so on I prefer a guy like Corn Elder. If we have to match up against a Njoku type talent or a very prolific TE then yeah Jenkins all day. Carter at nickel I'm not so sure about. I'm not very familiar with how Diaz does things so we'll see soon enough.

Amen. Teams do not even have film of Miami being Miami on defense unless they watch 30 for 30. ACC QBs have spent the last 4 years thinking they have a red practice jersey playing pitch and catch with receivers running open.

Also, from what I've heard and the little I've seen, extremely impressed with Malek Young. Like, very impressed. Think Duane Starks. Loose hips, acceleration, above average with the ball in the air. Look forward to perhaps seeing him in extended action those first few games.

And as for Jenkins, I know that his is simply exposing them to all possible positions and give them SOME exposure - I don't really anticipate them using Jenkins at nickel much. I sure hope malek can step up. It would be nice to identify a 2017 potential starter already.

I agree with this. It's been very exciting to hear about Malek Young. He looks poised to earn some serious playing time this season. Will most likely be the nickel next year.

Gentlemen, I stand corrected! I'm going to go ahead and chalk that up as a momentary lapse of reason on my part. In my mind I admit I most likely prejudged him because of his size and automatically thought he would be perfect for the nickel which he probably still is. It would seem with Young that we may have a legitimate stud CB more than capable of holding down one of the outside CB positions.

Also my thought process was that bringing in guys like Bandy, Henderson, Dallas and Edwards not to mention the 2018 kids would most likely push Malek Young inside to the nickel leaving the lengthier guys to the outside spots. Also LuCanes, I wanted to ask you just how good you think Young can be. Based on what you have seen do you think it's possible that Young meets your criteria for being elite?

I should have known better than to underestimate a kid who as someone said, "When the pads came on he was easily the best player on a loaded Coconut Creek team.". I believe you made a Duane Starks comparison. Any Phillip Buchanon in him? Bottom line is it would seem as though Young is the typical SoFla 3star that come to UM and plays like a 4/5 star. Classic Miami Hurricane type player.
