ive never understood the theory of the " coach hates me" thing. Why on earth would the coach whos jobs are on the line depending on if they win or lose not play the best players on the team...(barring incident etc).

Those players were clearly better players and wouldve gotten the team more wins..LOL you guys are sheep. If I'm right...and correct me if I'm wrong...wasn't Wilson a grad like Mike Williams? So he could transfer to any program he pleased and played and his and his fathers dream was to play in the Rosebowl?

thats what i thought..I just gave you two instances of coaches not playing their best players for stupid *** reasons.(Baseball & Dancing with the Stars) it aint always about winning now. Some coaches like to build for the future and the players get thrown to the wayside like Russell & Jason did just to prove a point.

My issue with Golden isn't playing the best players. It's with not playing them enough. We rotate in the 2nd string way too much, especially on defense. If the backups were good enough to be starting then they wouldn't be backups. Yeah rotating players keeps the starters fresh, but what's the point of all that UTough talk about our players being in such great shape if we have to sub them out all the time to keep them fresh?

Trying to build as much depth as possible with a very young team. The staff knows this teams best days are ahead of them so they are taking it on the chin a little bit this year.

I don't know about Vern's examples, but you guys are crazy if you don't think there are instances where coaches don't play the "best" player. Now, don't get me wrong because I'm not saying that Golden is ******** over anyone, but some of you sound like you've never been around athletics. Coaches are human just like everyone else, and are prone to a bit of favoritism for whatever reason. Some have biases against younger kids, or against outspoken kids, or kids that don't work as hard as the coach would like, or whatever. Some favor kids that remind them of themselves, or work harder in the weight room, or that they've known longer and trust more, etc. It's not as cut and dry as "why wouldn't the coach play the best player when his job depends on it" because you'll be amazed at how many ways coaches can rationalize things.

Again though, let me say that I'm not saying that this is what's going on with Golden, but instead that even if it was, it wouldn't be the first time. From what I remember, Butch Davis wasn't too fond of Clinton Portis.

in neither of those instances was "the better player" sitting on the bench while less talented players played ahead.. i don't think it's a good comparison.

You already got an explanation regarding Obrien and Wilson. Now I would like for you to explain to me how Russell Wilson compares to Luther Robinson? Is Luther clearly the best DT in the ACC, or the nation? A high character guy that never causes problems, keeps his head down and grinds away? You are acting like Golden is benching a Vince Wilfork in favor of "his players". Explain to me how Luther is clearly the better player, AND makes his fellow teammates better? The guy just ******* about being the best and wants more PT at the expense of others that work harder and put up the same results as he does. That was a dumb move by O'Brien.

Not necessarily, Glennon had already graduated also and would have transferred if Wilson would have stayed and started and Glennon still had 2 yrs left of eligibility at the time. He was a redshirt Junior and graduated in 3 years.

Conspiracy types, common message board occurrence. We're fans. We want to win games. If they don't win games their families don't eat. And they are all hyper-competitive.

This statement explains a lot (not sarcasm), if you're paying attention. In the DMV John Thompson, hall of fame former b-ball coach, used to talk openly about how coaches had their favorite players and that not everyone is treated the same - that's life - and if you played sports even at a high school level then you know this to be true. Typically, those players who bought in and contributed were the coach's favorites. Ergo, they got playing time. I have no issue with Golden having favorites, and I honestly don't think he would make decisions that would not increase his chances of success, but if you're going to freelance (do what you want to do) - no matter how talented you are - you're probably not going to see the field.

Allow me to say that EVERY and I mean EVERY good football coach Ive ever met in my life has been an arrogant ***. They are meniacal animals. They often will develop hard and fast rules for things that should be variable. One of those is typically dealing with player parents. Quite frankly, Im amazed that the kid wasnt kicked off the team for old man Robinson's actions. THAT is how most head coaches would have handled it. My guess is that golden only handled it differently because he needs depth.
