Unpopular Opinion

we fuqed then if thats the case, u want to be a dominant Miami u have to get the best players from sfla yearly plain and simple. Just like Ivins said the coaching staff has to do that or they will have the same fate as the rest of them

Again some of the best players to ever suit up for Miami were from outside of the holy grail of the "state of the Miami"

Sorry if you forget that talent exists outside of the state of Florida and the tri county

Why? Who does Clemson have from South Florida? Trayvon Mullen was the difference between a good team and a national championship team?

Look, I'm all in favor of locking down SFL. And I'm not totally disagreeing with you. But what Ivins is saying is you can't let the best of the best get away if you're the hometown team. But it's silly to think you have to have SFL players to win. Miami has been filled with players from SFL for several years. Clemson beat them about 1500-3 the last 2 times they played. You can win recruiting players nationally. But you can't let Jerry Jeudy, Dalvin Cook, Calvin Ridley, etc etc etc I can go on for a half hour....you can't let ALL those kids go to your rivals.

"If you want to be a dominant Miami you have to get the best players from SFL yearly" isn't entirely true. You need to because they're regional kids. But if you recruit good players and you have good coaches, you can win with kids from anywhere. Clemson being example #1. They've got kids from GA, SC, NC, AL, MD and more, and they're kicking the **** out of everyone. Find good players. Coach those players. That's the blueprint.

I think we will be at or greater than 50% tri-county, but to be where we need to be, we need to win and show the kids they can stay home and be winners here, which is what quite a few on the board have said. CMD also stated, "You win with us, or get beat by us." An old Cane mantra that should become #TNM motto. The kids will begin to feed off of that.
I would be happy with 50% this year because that means 12-13 local kids again (2018).

Other threads have pushed the in state - OOS discussion. We should all want the best players that WANT to be here. Until the 5-Star SoFla kids want to be here, there really isn't a discussion. (A special thank you to Duke and MPope for bucking the trend recently)

Our two decades of SUCK has resulted in most of the best players in SFL heading off to UF or Bama and on occasion, FSU , UGA, or even UCF. Nothing’s changing that until this program improves...a lot! No one takes Miami seriously anymore. Constant losses year after year to UVA, Duke, and other bottom feeders have made us a joke just like we were back in the ‘60s and ‘70s. We’re everyone’s favorite Homecoming opponent after having four just butt-ugly coaching hires.
Would you want to play for a chithead like Al Golden?

And yet in the 60s and 70s we produced top players that then went on to the NFL and one (should have been two or three) to the HoF.

Even in years of Glory, the elite Sofla kids still left for Alabama, FSU, UF, and UGA.

So far all 9 commits are instate
They don't count...

The rest of the class will be 5-stars from OOS!

Lol, in all seriousness I want us to land as many great players from anywhere in the country where they may be.

What needs to stop happening is fans pushing a narrative about local recruits while simultaneously celebrating commits from local recruits. There's plenty of local kids that want to be here we just have to do a better job at convincing them Miami is the best place for them.

The ratio will most likely be 70/30 in state to OOS, too many people think it's going to be 60/40 OOS to in state & that'll never happen.

We'll go OOS in this class possibly at QB, one of the OL's, probably a LB & possibly a DB if we can snag Cavazos, other than that most of the players we get for 2020 will be from South Fla/Fla in general.

Well said... (y)

Agreed El, well put mate. At the end of the day we’ve got to sign the players that want to be here, play hard for the university, and represent it well. If those all come from So FL, even better. If they don’t they we’ve got to maintain some form of trajectory upwards so if that means OOS young men, so be it. I think we’ll have to demonstrate that 2017 wasn’t a fluke, that the outlier was last season’s play. We get to consistently 10-3, 11-2 the players will come. Look at the leap UGA has taken, sans the bags recruiting wise.

I think it depends on the strengths/weaknesses of that particular recruiting cycle. I don't think theres a particular quota or ratio that has to be met every yr. At the end of the day the staff has to stay true to their evaluations/assessments.
