Underclassmen declaring for Draft at record high

It's good for us as more teams will have less upperclassmen playing for them. I don't think it will have a significant impact on us from the recruiting standpoint. Otherwise, not sure it will have any real impact at all except for those teams where the underclassmen are leaving.

Everyone trying to get the clock started ASAP , they want that second contract . A lot of these kids are making huge mistakes due to slimy agents and greedy family members.

I forgot I read an article about this year's class and they said that a ton of kids get bad advice like 25% that leave early don't even get drafted I'll try to find the link and post it.

I don't mind kids leaving early who are picked in rounds 1-3.

They were talking about it during the All Star game last night . Kids get bad advice then they're stuck after not getting drafted.

Just because your not drafted doesn't mean your not in the league. One high ranking NFL official said if your not highly regarded for the draft one year more than likely means you won't be the either the next year.

The new CBA is making these guys leave ASAP to start there clock. Often times we also see these guys working on there second or third contract and a guy who is 29 as opposed to 30 or 31 can demand more money just because they are one year younger.

One last thing, a guy who isn't drafted and makes it to the league is not mandated to the 4 year contract. So they can actually get to their money contract quicker!

Yeah but those are the type of guys who need to finish college. They may get a BS degree but a degree > no degree for their future earning power.

I guess I should've been more descriptive. The point of the issue is there's lots of kids that don't get drafted or get picked up as fa's. So they're just stuck with no pro football contract and no free education to fall back on.

Also , not getting drafted and being a FA significantly lowers your chance of making a team. There's tons of kids in nfl camps during the preseason but only a handful make 53 man rosters.

Was watching a thing on this the other day. And they blame the agents out there giving the players bad advice. Because they are having these players ask this committee where they may be drafted....and the committee can be wrong a lot. Especially as more underclassman actually do declare. Beyond that, the agents are just greedy and this is having a much more negative impact on the players while the agent just moves on to the next player.

One of the key points is that it's forcing NFL teams to scramble more and more. because they don't know most of the players who may come out and basically only have a few months to watch tapes and analyze them. They are usually watching a lot of tape on seniors (and high profile, obviously going to declare underclassman) a full year-plus before the draft.

The lack of time to really analyze the underclassman really affects their draft status in the end, and the committee doesn't take this into account.

Yeah a lot of guys trying to get to that 2nd contract that's when they start getting the big money

It's bad for most kids and bad for the league.

Yes, kids want their 2nd contract but many of these kids are not ready and will not make it. It's a numbers game. The NFL has x amount of roster spots and y number of players.....if you are not prepared to compete mentally or physically, you will not make it. That's what some of these young guys will find out. So eventhough they think they are doing themelves a favor, staying another year would probably help them bridge that trasitional gap by becoming stronger, tougher mentally and more experienced. Oh, and if they actually care about life after foobtball, since most kids don't make it in the pros for more than a couple years, they could actually get a free degree and find a different way out of the rough neighborhoods.

However.....if you are a running back that carries the ball a lot in college, go and do not look back. The body can only take so many tackles and your clock is ticking. That is why i DO NOT understand why all these young RBs want early playing time and go to schools strictly on depth charts. Why play as a true frosh and beat up your body? You can't go pro for 3 years. Sit back, learn, be a part time player and explode for 1-2 years and leave. That way you get to the league fresh.

Many of these kids that declare early already have their degrees. Colleges have these kids in school all year round. Bridgewater has his degree, as well as Feliciano from our team. Many of these people declaring early have had redshirt years.

Also, regardless if they make it in the pros many of these kids come back and finish their degrees for free during the offseason. BW is finishing up at the U right now. Plus he made minimum wage in the NFL for the last two years. I can't argue with that.

Some of these College coaches are biased in wanting these kids to stay because it helps them keep there job or get a raise. They are just as bad as the agents sometimes.

Exactly.

We didn't lose any UM players to the draft so it doesn't bother me personally. Im a big fan of the nfl draft though, so seeing underclassman go makes the draft better IMO but I really hoped that they could have graduated early but then again players usually go back to finish up anyway.

Until we have players leaving early and getting drafted in the first 2 rounds we ain't winning anything no matter who the coach is.
