Under 30 UM Fans….

I’ve mentioned several times I’ve been a Cane since 1967 - 10 years old. Y’all can do the math. I’ve seen more than my share of losses and more heartbreak than I can elaborate.

Fact of the matter is Miami was as irrelevant as it gets until Schnelly arrived in 1979. He elevated the program to unprecedented heights and JJ and Erickson were able to ride that wave for several years. Then the Shapiro fiasco happened and Butch dug us out of that hole. Through many blunders that have been discussed here, there, and everywhere, it’s been downhill ever since. Back to the bad old days.

Having the success of the 80’s, 90’s, and early 2000’s has given today’s fans a false sense of entitlement thinking we should be relevant just because of about 20 years of success from a football program that has existed since 1927 - 97 years. Couple that with the fact Miami is a small private university with a small alumni base in a city with 4 pro teams and as diverse a population as anywhere in the country.

Does all the aforementioned lessen the sting of yesterday? Of course not. We all love our Canes and any loss hurts to the bone. But the reality is Miami won’t ever again see the success of those championship years. Other programs have caught up and surpassed us and this years team is the best we’ll see going forward. We may have an outlier here or there, but I honestly don’t expect to see another NC in my lifetime. My best hope is that we can maintain being competitive and not return to being completely irrelevant.

I wasn’t expecting the CFP this year. We sucked last year and the upgrades weren’t great on the Defensive side. If the U is back, we need to go 9-3 next year and have a chance at the ACC/CFP just like this year. Get me to 10 wins annually with a chance to make a run. Just look at the powers: UGA likely 3 losses, bama 3 losses, OSU 2 losses with one being UM. The one loss teams have played cupcakes with losses to the better teams.
 
I was there when we were horrible. People scheduled us to pound is like an FCS sacrificial lamb.

I was then in the Orange Bowl when we beat Nebraska for our first. I still can’t describe the city of Miami that night.

I ran into Jimmy Johnson at a wrestling tournament after his first season and I said something sarcastic…he looked at me and said how they would get it right. No smile nothing he was angry and serious. Boy was he.

Hey youngsters…we ran it up on Notre Dame and the announcers were sobbing. Jimmy said “that’s for all the years you did it to this team”

I remember they **** on us so Thrill Hill held his arms up in the tunnel…we ran it up on Texas…in Texas like 45-3 and over 200 penalty yards against us. Headed north with the score on our windows and we broke down in the mountains 🤣

We can go on forever but you being in here….you a part of that too.

Yesterday, because of the stakes, was the worst loss that I can remember. To come so close and get nowhere was the final punch in the gut.

We had the best QB in the country. We had a manageable schedule. We only had to win one more game and we blew it.

It’s unbelievably depressing. I feel for your son because I’m in the same boat as him. I’d like to say there is a light at the end of the tunnel, but my dad told me that when we fired Coker. Almost 20 years later, I’m still waiting.

I expected something like this to happen today. I didn’t decide to watch the game until 10 minutes before kickoff. No regrets, but there was no sense of excitement all week. One would think this is a big game and we get a chance to get to the ACC title game and actually win the conference.

I’m not quite yet done as a fan, but to be honest, I’m close. I want to see what they do about conference affiliation over the next few years. Right now the ACC and Big 12 on the outside looking in.

The Big Ten will have four teams in the playoffs: Oregon, Penn State, Ohio State, and Indiana.
The SEC will get: Texas, Georgia, and Tennessee.
Notre Dame will get an invite.

That’s 8 of 12.

That leaves the ACC champ, the Big 12 champ, and likely Boise State getting 3 of those 4.

Can Miami get the 12th?
Does SEC bias get Alabama the 12th?
What if Clemson beats SMU to win the ACC automatic bid? Does that put 10-2 SMU at 12?

Ohio State doesn't deserve a playoff spot. Similar season to us

He was having anxiety all day leading up to the game, even up 21-0, he wasn't feeling it. This was the first time that he was seeing a Miami team that had a chance. We went to the ACC championship game against Clemson, but this season felt a lot better in some ways with Cam. It was eating him alive.

Even this morning he's still in shambles.

Syracuse has their biggest comeback win in program history and, of course, it occurs when I’m there at the game. What the **** did I do to deserve this?

My dad also came to the game — he’s the one who made me a fan. As the game ended and my face was in my hands, I looked up and we made eye contact right before he left. He didn’t actually say anything, but his eyes said, “I’m sorry I did this to you — it’s my fault you’re a die hard fan.”

The whole thing is stomach wrenching. I legit don’t know how I can keep allowing myself to care so much. But this team is a drug and I can’t get off of it.

I've been a fan of Mia since I can remember, and I made the trek 2 hrs to the game. I brought my 14 yr old son with me who I know I helped bring his Fandom of this team to fruition. He asks me all the time, " why do you like Miami?" . It's tough to relive the good Ol' days only to see this play out the way it does.
 
I think the Under 30's might have it easier. They likely don't have the same "bar" us Over 30's have from living thru the glory days of the 80's and onward

Sounds like him and I live identical lives. It sucks. We’ll all find a way to move on. We have no other choice.

I would agree with this if we were even halfway decent the last 20 years. But overall, we’ve been terrible. Its a nightmare being a fan of this team.

What’s funny to me is that even during the probation years, which seemed like it took forever to get through (really only 2-3 years of true irrelevancy), I recall that it was understood that once probation was over, they’d be back on top. Shoot, by 1998-99, you already saw a resurgence. Never thought it would take this long. Happy to have been a young guy in 91 and forward to remember those years.
