Under 30 UM Fans….

have had to endure nothing but torture their entire lives.

At least some of you older guys remember the glory days. What the **** do guys like me have left to hang our hats on?

This is legitimately the only team I care about. I don’t watch other sports and the NFL is meh at best. Year in and year out, it’s the same nightmare. Different plot, same ending.

The last time I watched Miami win a game in person, I was 8 years old. I live 5 minutes from the Dome and thought this was the year I could enjoy my team live. Nope. A friend of the family even gifted my wife and I box seats. How did it end? Me….left staring into the abyss as their fans rush the field and another one of our seasons goes down the toilet.

It was so bad that my one friend who always gives me a hard time when UM loses, actually put his arm around me and said, “I’m so sorry, bro.” That’s how pathetic It must have looked seeing me dejected as a bunch of drunk Cuse fans kept screaming in my ear.

This team has done nothing but rip my soul out repeatedly for 20+ years. If you are under the age of 30, like me, you understand. But if the university is going to attempt to be competitive going forward, something has to change. Because with each passing year, you risk losing more and more people who are smart enough to realize this is not worth the time, money, and stress. There is only so much we can take.

Love ya all. Go Canes.

You know what?

If you could quantify fandom, guys like you are the BIGGEST fans of all.

You never got to experience the cultural revolution and the dynamic entertainment of our certain periods of dominance.

Yet you are somehow a fan.

So here is a history lesson when Butch came in we had years of probation and lost scholarships. But in a few years he built a winning program with a couple of future HOF. But, every year we saw improvement. Till finally 2001 after he left his players won a National Championship. My point Mario is doing the same thing we have seen improvement each year. But the team is still a few years away from championship caliber. This team this year was fun and won a lot of games we would have lost years ago. Our defense just wasn’t good enough. I trust Mario to fix it. Let’s go Canes!!
And we complained about Butch back then as much as we complain about Mario now… said all the same things about him.. **** game day coach, bad decision maker, great recruiter.

To explain how we old timers felt, it was never about winning or losing. It was the effort and players would put out so much effort even the few losses were acceptable because you knew the players felt worse then we did. I referred to it as "PLAYING LIKE A HURRICANE". How could you fault players who sacrificed so much and gave out so much effort in every game. Players today on the sideline seem to not even recognize what is going on. They celebrate nothingness, they dance when they are losing. In my day you always expected a win until the clock expired. Imagine going to the Orange Bowl and winnng every game 58 times without a home loss. Nine years of winning. The original OB was special, Hard Rock could be but we fans need to see explicit effort from the entire squad, offense, defense, special teams, and even the Ibis. The Ibis was incredible when Routh was in the suit, he made mascots famous. Effort, effort, effort was the key to dominance and until current Hurricanes own it, it may never be the same.

Edit Note: Opponents FEARED those Canes!
Amen. Winning at home was almost a given.

Playing on the road? They loved beating the **** out of another team and silencing their fans.

They had a chip on their shoulder. They talked a great game and then backed it up. We were three deep with absolute studs.

Today? I don’t even want to hear them speak. It’s all talk and no action.

We need to recruit and play those kids. Make them want to stay and only use portal out of necessity. That can be your in with recruits.

I just been torture. 29 years old. And it feels like I’ve only gotten to experience the OB curse.
One year a good O with a bad D, the next a bad O with a good D.
This year: best offense in school history… and of course we have possibly the worst D in school history.
Only glimpses here and there of something special.
Will always love this team, but I’m just in a numb pain at this point
We just gotta find a way to hang on until eventually one day we’re happy.

Great point.
I have no idea how anyone under thirty would become a fan of this team.
I went to UM and was there for the last of the glory years and I’m at my wits end with this program.

I had come to terms that this program was never going to win anything meaningful again, but got sucked in again with the hype of the Mario hire.
However, I think most sane Canes fans now realize Mario is not winning anything and this was just a colossal waste of time and money.

The game has passed this program by and this last ditch experiment with paying ridiculous money to Mario to try and turn it around is failing miserably.

I think the money is starting to dry up as evidenced by our recruiting class this year. I suspect we will be going back to the shoestring budget of a small private University in a dying conference.
I have a really hard time seeing a positive future for this program.

Same as every season over the last 20 years, I’m thrilled the season is over and can spend my time doing something else than watching this team play football.

I remember the glory days, and I can tell you it's not any easier from where I am sitting.

Ya, we don’t have much we can point to in our lives to say, “wow, my team made me proud and happy.”

UF in 2003
VT in 2005
OU in 2009
ND in 2017
UF in 2024

Even when we beat FSU, they haven’t been at their best so it’s bittersweet. The 2018 comeback, for example, was against a bad team. 2017…..Same. 2024….same.
The FSU bloodbath in '20.

Ya I can't even watch highlight from this season without wanting to vomit…What coulda been
Same. I watched the UF replay multiple times, along with our win against Louisville and comeback vs. Cal. As awesome as those games were, I have zero interest in going back to watch them now. This game ruined everything.

Eh, give it time. End of the day we just watched the best Miami team in 2 decades with our best QB in at least as long. This has been our most fun team in a really long time imo. Saturday sucked. Pitt sucked in 2017. Marquette sucked in the 2013 tournament. Doesn’t stop me from watching those teams’ games, personally.

Well, back THEN - we really sucked bad. REAL bad!

On rare occasions - we'd have a slight flash.

Schellenberger came aboard - and that narrative is out there for the taking. Took him five years - and we got our first NC. We were ****ing in tall cotton!

THEN he says he's leaving! What the ****?

We get a new coach - and his first year we took a dip. Not looking good! We got much better during his stay and about the time things are clicking along - HE announces he's leaving!

Now we're all puked out one more time! Can't keep our only two coaches!

Got another - and wow! Here we go again - and it's good! For another few years! Loved the Cotton Bowl!

Then, we get word that we're in trouble - and the ***ned Sports Illustrated questioned if Miami Football should get the death penalty.

Look.

It's one thing after another. The single thing in this universe that never changes - is that things always change.

After our disasters with Radar, Golden and the (seems like Seven Dwarfs) we won 10 games this year.

I'm not happy - but ten wins after the past 15 years - feels pretty good. Not great - pretty good.

MY QUESTION: If I'm a Head Coach - why in **** would I not pay - even if I had to take a cut in salary - WHY would I not pay a proven OC and another proven DC?

Not good ones at some smaller schools - but proven Coordinators from some of the Big programs?

Great Coordinators - paid well - win the games on game day.

Every other day is just prep for game days.

Really sucks being 30, almost 31 too. Wasn’t alive and didn’t experience the 80s-early 90s. Was only 8 when we won in 2001 and remember watching it but don’t actually remember it. First one I truly remember is 2002 and crying in the living room floor as a 9 year old.

All downhill from there.
jfc this is literally my exact experience too o_O 😭
