have had to endure nothing but torture their entire lives.

At least some of you older guys remember the glory days. What the **** do guys like me have left to hang our hats on?

This is legitimately the only team I care about. I don’t watch other sports and the NFL is meh at best. Year in and year out, it’s the same nightmare. Different plot, same ending.

The last time I watched Miami win a game in person, I was 8 years old. I live 5 minutes from the Dome and thought this was the year I could enjoy my team live. Nope. A friend of the family even gifted my wife and I box seats. How did it end? Me….left staring into the abyss as their fans rush the field and another one of our seasons goes down the toilet.

It was so bad that my one friend who always gives me a hard time when UM loses, actually put his arm around me and said, “I’m so sorry, bro.” That’s how pathetic It must have looked seeing me dejected as a bunch of drunk Cuse fans kept screaming in my ear.

This team has done nothing but rip my soul out repeatedly for 20+ years. If you are under the age of 30, like me, you understand. But if the university is going to attempt to be competitive going forward, something has to change. Because with each passing year, you risk losing more and more people who are smart enough to realize this is not worth the time, money, and stress. There is only so much we can take.

Love ya all. Go Canes.

Yeah this is bull****. I got drunk and didn’t even make it to halftime because I knew we would give up the lead
Even when we were up 21-0, I couldn’t get excited. I had a bad feeling and knew what was coming. How crazy is that?

Syracuse has their biggest comeback win in program history and, of course, it occurs when I’m there at the game. What the **** did I do to deserve this?

My dad also came to the game — he’s the one who made me a fan. As the game ended and my face was in my hands, I looked up and we made eye contact right before he left. He didn’t actually say anything, but his eyes said, “I’m sorry I did this to you — it’s my fault you’re a die hard fan.”

The whole thing is stomach wrenching. I legit don’t know how I can keep allowing myself to care so much. But this team is a drug and I can’t get off of it.

I'm sorry you all have had to watch two decades of putrid football. I'm afraid the worse of the Cristobal Era is yet to come. Games like Syracuse is what makes you lose credibility with recruits, coaches and everyone else. Expect a significant regression next season with a harder schedule, lesser QB, and same incompetence from the head coach position and his staff. But he'll get some recruits who will be Greentree all Americans. So there's that! Rinse and repeat the last 20 years for the next few years. Same ol sh*t

I turned 60 this past week so I remember the good old days. Seems like forever ago.

I expected something like this to happen today. I didn’t decide to watch the game until 10 minutes before kickoff. No regrets, but there was no sense of excitement all week. One would think this is a big game and we get a chance to get to the ACC title game and actually win the conference.

I’m not quite yet done as a fan, but to be honest, I’m close. I want to see what they do about conference affiliation over the next few years. Right now the ACC and Big 12 on the outside looking in.

The Big Ten will have four teams in the playoffs: Oregon, Penn State, Ohio State, and Indiana.
The SEC will get: Texas, Georgia, and Tennessee.
Notre Dame will get an invite.

That’s 8 of 12.

That leaves the ACC champ, the Big 12 champ, and likely Boise State getting 3 of those 4.

Can Miami get the 12th?
Does SEC bias get Alabama the 12th?
What if Clemson beats SMU to win the ACC automatic bid? Does that put 10-2 SMU at 12?

I don’t see a world where we make it, even if SMU beats Clemson.

All I can say.

After this blood letting out loss.

And watching a couple old clips of Miami back in the day playing even Texas in the Cotton Bowl.

We looked like men on the field. And our defense was so much faster and nasty.

The only way Miami will ever come back is unless we get back to being a nasty hard defense. Every player, every play.

We simply will not become Elite again unless we get back to being a ruthless defense.

I think you’re bad luck bro. I appreciate you as a fan though. If your 1st UM teams were after 2006 then you’re a diehard. I at least have a few championships to hang my hat on. The sun will shine on us again one day my Cane brethren. Hang tight

Really sucks being 30, almost 31 too. Wasn’t alive and didn’t experience the 80s-early 90s. Was only 8 when we won in 2001 and remember watching it but don’t actually remember it. First one I truly remember is 2002 and crying in the living room floor as a 9 year old.

All downhill from there.

Same with me. I was on a recruiting trip with a friends son and when it went yo 21-14 I looked at him and said “ yep, this is going to turn into a shootout. Everything about that game was a fitting microcosm of the season.

So here is a history lesson when Butch came in we had years of probation and lost scholarships. But in a few years he built a winning program with a couple of future HOF. But, every year we saw improvement. Till finally 2001 after he left his players won a National Championship. My point Mario is doing the same thing we have seen improvement each year. But the team is still a few years away from championship caliber. This team this year was fun and won a lot of games we would have lost years ago. Our defense just wasn’t good enough. I trust Mario to fix it. Let’s go Canes!!

Ya, we don’t have much we can point to in our lives to say, “wow, my team made me proud and happy.”

UF in 2003
VT in 2005
OU in 2009
ND in 2017
UF in 2024

Even when we beat FSU, they haven’t been at their best so it’s bittersweet. The 2018 comeback, for example, was against a bad team. 2017…..Same. 2024….same.

The younger guys who didn't experience the old Orange Bowl totally discount The Curse of the Orange Bowl. But sports curses are real. That was the heart and soul of the best NFL Team and College Football Team.

Man I’m so numb to this now I can’t even get truly upset. Went to the game too. My son loves cuse, we live in Buffalo. I told him at 21-0 it’s not over. Then as usual Miami out thinks itself and loses again. So many issues w this program you just have to expect the worst and be surprised when we win.

You youngin’s don’t know the half of it.

I’ve mentioned several times I’ve been a Cane since 1967 - 10 years old. Y’all can do the math. I’ve seen more than my share of losses and more heartbreak than I can elaborate.

Fact of the matter is Miami was as irrelevant as it gets until Schnelly arrived in 1979. He elevated the program to unprecedented heights and JJ and Erickson were able to ride that wave for several years. Then the Shapiro fiasco happened and Butch dug us out of that hole. Through many blunders that have been discussed here, there, and everywhere, it’s been downhill ever since. Back to the bad old days.

Having the success of the 80’s, 90’s, and early 2000’s has given today’s fans a false sense of entitlement thinking we should be relevant just because of about 20 years of success from a football program that has existed since 1927 - 97 years. Couple that with the fact Miami is a small private university with a small alumni base in a city with 4 pro teams and as diverse a population as anywhere in the country.

Does all the aforementioned lessen the sting of yesterday? Of course not. We all love our Canes and any loss hurts to the bone. But the reality is Miami won’t ever again see the success of those championship years. Other programs have caught up and surpassed us and this years team is the best we’ll see going forward. We may have an outlier here or there, but I honestly don’t expect to see another NC in my lifetime. My best hope is that we can maintain being competitive and not return to being completely irrelevant.

Ya, only UM would blow a lead like that with so much on the line. It was poetic.
