UNC's big decision is who replaces Mack.
I’d be kicking down Venables door. Bring his kid w/ him.

Chizik isn’t a bad name (UNC ties) if they go defensively & Malzahn would be solid if they go offense.

From Tarheel 247 board:

As chaotic as the ACC had been through the first three weeks of the season, No. 9 Clemson's loss at N.C. State earlier in the day finally shifted the conference paradigm. The program that has dominated the league for the past six years is finally vulnerable and the ACC Championship is a legitimate goal for any number of conference teams. Those lofty aspirations lasted only a couple of hours for the Tar Heels, who have to correct a myriad of issues on both sides of the ball and find ways to win games before engaging in any more Coastal Division talk.

The Tar Heel coaching staff has remained relatively immune to criticism due to the glaring voids of talent at certain positions upon their arrival three years ago. However, as the Top-15 recruiting classes stockpile atop one another, Larry Fedora’s culpability rapidly diminishes. His lasting impact on UNC becomes less about personnel and more about his $3 million annual buyout payment. Now that the talent issue is being resolved, the lackluster performances on the field become a coaching problem, either through talent evaluation, schematics or game management.

Brown cautioned against the inflated hype leading into the opener against Virginia Tech, although even the Hall of Fame head coach suggested his program was ahead of schedule. Maybe the rebuilding project within the Kenan Football Stadium is more arduous than anyone expected.

What is clear is the mounting frustration at a promising season come undone before October arrives. The preseason Coastal Division favorites already have two division losses and therefore need a long winning streak and plenty of help from their Coastal counterparts to play for the ACC Championship in December. Such a goal seems implausible after what happened in Atlanta on Saturday night.

Carolina only rushed for 63 total yards on 35 carries (1.8 yards per carry) while quarterback Sam Howell was sacked eight times. Howell was 25-for-39 for 306 passing yards and two touchdowns.

The Yellow Jackets used the legs of quarterback Jeff Simms in the second half to confuse and run past the Tar Heels. Simms ran for 128 yards and three touchdowns on only 10 carries. He was 10-for-134 through the air for 112 yards and another score.

Mack Brown built his legend at Texas by:

1) Signing a CFB superlative legend in Vince Young, and then lucking into an NFL caliber quarterback in Colt McCoy (3 stars), who was intended to be the backup to Jevon Snead
2) Feasting on a dilapidated Big 12 from 1999-2009, which outside of OU had no one who could match Texas
3) An out of conference schedule that was filled with Rice, New Mexico State, and North Texas. Aside from Ohio State, Mack’s Texas teams never player anyone formidable in OOC during his first 12 years at Texas

I love how Mack is wasting a lot of talented, young guys. They basically have two top 15 and another top 20ish class (Howell one he rescued) since he arrived with another top 15 class so far this year. Their running game is dramatically worse and their defense and Bateman have underachieved.

Mack Brown had one of the most talented squads at UNC during 96 and 97 seasons and his teams underachieved...similar deal at UT...it is what he does..

That linebacker last year was good to kid had the look of a modern day backer.

Don't forget about Brown and Newsome. I said it all summer, Howell is good, and their OC is legit as ****, but that is a LOT of talent to replace. And they're not Bama. Yes, they've been recruiting better. But this isn't "lose 4 NFL skill players and replace them with 4 just as good".

Yea they must of missed on evals cause they were beginning to stack some decent talent. But it seems like some of them are underwhelming or misses at this point.

Ty Chandler is really their only back now. Their backup is a freshman. Those 2 kids they had last year were MONSTERS. It's the same scheme, and same OL. But Chandler had 17 carries for 48 yards against GT. Williams and Carter just never had duds like that last year.

Carter averaged 7.98 (!!!!!) a carry last season. On a hundred and ******* fifty-six carries. And Williams was at 7.26. They just never really got stopped, both of them, for an entire game like GT did to them the other night. 28 TDs between the two of them in 11 games. Just insanity. And then if you did slow them down, they had 2 NFL receivers to throw to. Dyami Brown is getting heavy burn for the Redskins right now. Just impossible to pick up without a hitch when you lose that much talent and you're not a 5-star factory.

Are you saying there is a chance????

UNC has never won anything meaningful. Ever. Nada. They are another mid-tier acc corstal program. Dopes on this board think they are legit because they own Diaz - that's a pretty **** low bar. Good basketball school but utterly irrelevant football program. In other words, a perfect acc school.

Were those Fedoras recruits?

Thought they blamed him for being in the dumps in talent
