UM's fastest man Lingard working to get the details right at RB

That last quote gonna have him not doing interviews for awhile. We know how Richt gets down. I remember when Pinckney was banned from interviews after talking like this.

Cager was as well

For saying Harley had “Crackhead Speed”

No I just remember that we havent done **** in 15 years and remembet stuff like the trash talk at Louisville before getting crushed.

Earn it first then talk and gyrate all you want.

IF I COULD RIP THE LIPS OFF YOUR FACE RIGHT NOW....I'D DONATE THE REST OF THAT VAGINAL CANAL TO F$U AND CALL IT A DAY.....

Remember when everyone was butt hurt about that Maryland RB staying home? Glad those days are long gone.
Funny...I was in College Park yesterday....drove right by the university...thought of that kid McFartland or whatever his name was....thinking they must have given him a boatload of money to stay in that dreary town.

And now their coach is about to be fired.

6 ft 202 lb 4.2 40 five star recruit is 5th string rb? Now that is a Miami class RB room.
I'm actually intrigued by the two unknowns ahead of him...Burns and Chocolate. A while back I watched some HS video of Burns and thought he was very talented. Now health is the issue, if only he can be healthy.

Trayone, now I find it interesting that they're giving him some tailback reps, not just relegated to fullback. He's big and strong as an ox. Saw a recent article where one of the LBs said Gray was really fast. Even if he doesn't have wiggle, he might be a nightmare if he gets a lane.

This probably equals the team when we had Portis, McGahee, Davenport and I think Gore. We're they all on the team at the same time?

EDIT: It was the Herald article a few days ago and DeeJay described Gray as having a Ferrari engine

UM 240-lb back is ‘a Mack truck with a Ferrari engine.’ And all he wants to do is run

Since he came in during the spring semester, freshman RB Lorenzo Lingard was immediately the #3 back in Miami’s rotation. However, after struggling with pass protection in the first fall scrimmage on Saturday, he was moved down to 5th on the depth chart behind Trayone Gray and Robert Burns.

“Yeah, I need to work on [pass protection],” Lingard said. “It’s just a matter of picking up the right guy that I’m supposed to have and pretty much just whatever the line don’t pick up.”

What else do the coaches tell him he needs to do to move back up the depth chart?

“Just be consistent,” Lingard said. “I have great plays here and there, but I have to do things like that more often.”

Although Lingard said it helped him mentally to graduate from high school early and enroll in Miami in for spring ball, it has been a whirlwind the last few weeks in comparison.

“It did help, but things picked up a lot since fall camp and first game of the season prep,” Lingard said. “I’ve picked up a lot since I’ve been here, but now it’s just a matter of being consistent.”

Speaking of things he’s picked up at Miami, Lingard says he’s learned plenty from working behind UM’s #1 and #2 tailbacks in Travis Homer and DeeJay Dallas.

“Patience from Travis and reading the hole and DeeJay has great footwork,” Lingard said. “I try to take pieces from the whole when I watch them and put two and two together.”

At 6’0” 202 pounds, Lingard ran the fastest timed 40 in team testing over the off-season with a 4.27 40 yard dash. That size-speed combination is absolutely elite at any level, but Lingard tries to keep himself grounded so he can focus on ironing out the rest of his game.

“I don’t rub it in anybody’s face, I’m pretty humble about it,” Lingard said on being the fastest man on the team. “I’d say [my speed] really comes in handy catching the ball in space or on a go-route.”

The Hurricanes’ offensive line has been a problem spot in the past few years, especially in terms of run blocking, but the coaches have reported progress these first few weeks of fall camp.

“Coach (Stacy) Searels has done a great job with the guys,” Lingard said on the OL. “They have tiny cracks here and there, but I take advantage when I get a window and get what I can. They’re working hard and coming along.”

When asked who the hardest hitter on the defense has been so far at UM, Lingard didn’t hesitate to answer.

“Shaq Quarterman… Let’s just say I’ve been hit.”

Any predictions on week 1 vs. LSU?

“Man, it’s going to be a blowout, we going to win. The LSU moms are going to be packing their bags early and telling their sons ‘It’s okay, Johnny’, all that stuff.”

@stefan are these your interviews or you grabbing quotes from others? The only reason I ask is typically Richt doesn’t let freshmen talk, let alone give game predictions.

I got a chubby hearing the coaches have him running go routes! I was imagining the Nole tears when he takes it 75 yards to the house.

This group's talented, but not that talented. I'd easily trade Gore for Burns & Gray.

can not disagree with this. What Miami had as a RB stable in that era is once-in-lifetime. I read somewhere that that group accumulated over 30,000 rushing yards(or something like that) in the NFL. That has to be some sort of record

Word is that the Terrapin program works its players to death

Yeah, let's not get ahead of ourselves here.

A lot of fans also thought the RB position was gonna be "back" when the offense was stacked with Javarris James, Derron Thomas, Charlie Jones, Shawnbrey McNeal, and Graig Cooper. And then the season happened.

I think the current crop will be a lot better than those guys, but better than the 01-02 group? That's asking a lot.

Ballsy statement from Lo about LSU. But ya know what? I’m kinda liking it lol. Why not believe you’re going to wipe your cleats with the likes of Devon White and their “vaunted” Tigers defense? Why not feel you have the better and deeper talent than LSU? I know Richt doesn’t like to give out bulletin board material but honestly, is Corch O really smart enough to figure that out, much less what a bulletin board is?

Love this kid and what he brings to the team. He is NOT going to be a good one for us - he is going to be a GREAT RB in the rich tradition of RBs at the U!
