Donaldson is in FSU territory and plays at Florida State University School in Tallahassee, although the Noles have not offered here yet. The 6-2 185 pound prospect does have early bids from Alabama, UF, Auburn, Tennessee, and Nebraska, though. Donaldson is also considered a college basketball prospect as well.

correct 😎

knew the name sounded familiar

Wow. As someone who is a fan of UM hoops; Miami and Michigan (grew up in Ann Arbor), I watched him play a ton of basketball this year. He goes from frustrating to awesome within the same game. He often is invisible for 3/4 of a game and then explodes late and hits lots of big shots.
He is not afraid to take big shots, he is a willing passer, but he is not someone you pencil in for 16-20 points a game; closer to 10-14 but in close games expect him to take and make big shots.
Definitely a good pick up IMO.

Any insight into his defensive game? Would you describe him as a true point guard or more of a combo guard?

True PG. The purest point guard we have had in a few years in that Wong and Pack were/are not true point guards. Pass first PG who is willing to shoot when the team needs it. Probably the purest PG since Charlie (last name escapes me who took us to the Elite 8). But because he is almost an old school PG, he won’t carry a team with 25 points. But if the game is close, he wants the ball at the end and he delivered consistently in late game situations.

Defensively he is solid. Stays in front of his man, doesn’t gamble much so he doesn’t have a lot of steals, but doesn’t get beat by his man to the hole. He is also about 6’2” “6’6” with the Afro”. Name the movie that line is from. And he is solidly built so he won’t be posted up.

I only felt he was overwhelmed in one game all season and that was when Michigan played at Purdue and Braden Smith was killing Donaldson. But in their next 2 match ups, Donaldson played as well as our even out played Smith, who was all Big-Ten.

Last thing. Go and watch the last 5 seconds of the UM v Purdue game in the conference tournament and you will see what kind of player Donaldson is. Listen to Bill Raferty’s commentary as well. Once a coach, always a coach.
