What about MRob who ran a 4.4 and had like 20 sacks...Brooks is a fair example. I think he was a good take and will be a good player. He played with a bad foot injury this year which slowed him down. But he’s still TBD.
The other guys are bad athletes. McCray ran a 4.92 with a 65 SPARQ. Smith ran a 4.86 with a 72 SPARQ. Wilder weighed 189 pounds with a 79 SPARQ. They failed because they didn’t have that much talent.
Branden Jennings was a high school linebacker. So were Steed and McCloud. Meanwhile, the top LBs in the upcoming draft played DE, WR and QB. It’s a tricky position to project.
Tyler is a take because he’s a strong, quick, mean and explosive athlete. He tosses Armella like a ragdoll. He changes directions. The coaches saw him play LB up-close at camp and loved his movement.
Will he translate? Will he be coached up? All fair questions. But don’t write the guy off just because he played the same high school position as Micah Parsons, Kenneth Murray and Rashaan Evans.
Tyriq McCord...
Tyler Gauthier...
We have never been able to successfully transition a HS rush end to a true LB...
We need to stop trying to fit square pegs into round holes...
I have played both DE and MLB, and can tell you that there is a serious learning curve from having to just beat the guy in front of you on your way to the backfield and playing LB with all of the instincts, pre snap reads, shedding blocks, coverage etc... that are required to be elite.
Enough with the **** rush end to LB experiment!
It doesn't work in a 4-3...
Those guys can make good 3-4 OLBs that rush the passer and occasionally drop into coverage, but any LB position that requires LB instincts like in a 4-3 needs guys who have played the position...
Ryan Shazier is the exception to the rule, not the rule...
Hope that I am wrong and both Johnson and Davis turn into stud LBs for us, but with our LB coaches in Baker, Patke and Mandy, does anyone have any faith they will be developed?
Can't wait till daddy's little HC in training is canned and Blake James with him....
And if it takes more embarrassing losses (we all know Diaz is good for at least 2 a year) to make it happen, so be it...
Manny will 100% never win any real championships (just offseason ones)...
