Turner working to silence critics

I can't wait to see how these kids we discovered at our camps and jumped on do during their senior seasons.

We all begged for a staff that did their own evaluations and had confidence in them. Funny how some people ***** when it happens. Until the sites start giving them their stars of course.

I hate our fanbase. Why bash a kid that's committed to us? We don't know what the future holds for him. He could be a future first round pick. Golden sees something in him and that's all I need to know.

Stop being internet recruiting experts and start trusting our coaches eye for talent. These kids use the internet you ******* idiots. They can see what you say. So how about being fans and actually saying good things about our commitments.

Hi Dennis, welcome to THE U young man. Don't pay much attention to any of us. This staff actually knows what it is doing. Some of the people that make comments are not even Cane fans--just trouble makers or people with an axe to grind. Keep working hard and learn to study film--that will make the staff love you even more. You will run through THE SMOKE, something I doubt many, if any, of the people here ever did.

With the depth at corner getting to where it needs to be, I have no issue with Turner as a prospect. He has plenty of time to be developed in HS/college and he has good speed. I'm excited to see this future Cane develop.

This, we don't need him to step in and play immediatly, he can redshirt and learn the position. Seems like a good athlete that we can develop.

Welcome to the :neonu: Dennis! Lets go to work shun! Really happy to see us get back into Dillard and Ely recently. Don't mind some of these self proclaimed recruitnicks around here. Most of them talk like this:

I can see this kid being a solid contributor by his RS junior year. Could end up being a two year starter if he works hard enough.

I can also see him being a solid special teams contributor by his RS freshman year.

*He's 160 lbs now.
* He'll have all of 2014 to add some bulk before getting to UM.
* All of 2015 to further bulk up and strengthen. (redshirt)
* 2016 special teams contributor
* 2017 special teams contributor / spot time as a nickel/ dime DB and/or some mop up duty at corner.
* 2018 can vie for the starting position
* 2019 Starting corner
* 2020 draft pick

Sounds good to me. :)

Did you mandate an extra year of college? If he's a 2014 kid, his redshirt will be in 2014. You have him on the Glenn Cook plan. The kid will be 38 years old by the time he's out of here.

Hahaha. Oops. Fixed it.

Not saying I question the coaches' decisions when it comes to some of these less celebrated recruits, but I do resent this atmosphere where any questioning gets immediately shot down. Al Golden will not be 100% on the money with every recruit, and that's normal, true with every coach. But it's also normal to question coaches' decisions. I'm not saying he should be put on the hot seat or anything, I'm a huge Golden fan. I just hate the "well wtf do you know, our coaches know better" mentality.

You're probably a cool dude, and I understand your reasoning. But the bottom line is...they do. There is no possible way the you, I, or the other 4,000 people that paruse this sight know more, or see more than these coaches do. Especially at these camps! If they know what they are looing for in a recruit, and and he comes to camp, balls out, and shows the coaches exactly what they are looking for, then he deserves an offer. We all make bad decisions from time to time. But the knowledge and skillset that the staff is looking for, can't be better determined by anyone else. Take Eddie Johnson and Finnie for example. They go against Goldens track record, even though it was their own records that got them caught up. I'm rolling with the coaches on this one.

Solid post...even if by some miracle you do know half as much as the coaches do. You still haven't seen them up close in person the way our staff has. They have more information about these kids than any of us, (and any other coaching staff in the nation for that matter) and they have more knowledge and experience in analyzing that info than anyone else. Gotta roll with the staff...and I can actually say that with a ton more confidence than I did when it was Coker or Shannon as the HNIC.

We will always allow open debate on this board. That much I can promise you.

There has to be substance, and a lot of people who question these kids are just basing it on highlights and camp numbers. I don't get the need to bash recruits considering it's about projections and that's something someone can only really understand knowing the full picture of a kid (family, background, growth potential, academics, etc.).

As for Turner, I'm excited about a kid that has that type of mentality and is that excited about playing for Miami. Kids that believe in this thing are the ones that will bring the U back to being the U, not the guys who just choose Miami because that's where they will get PT. Plus, playing cornerback is 90% about attitude, and the ability to get back after it play after play.

I like it! I get excited for any kid we bring in...its all about potential from there!

It's pretty easy to question any coach after the coaching situation over the 10 years before Golden. Do Shannon and Coker ring a bell? People sling mud on Coker and Shannon constantly now after the fact. I love what Golden has done here so far. But there is a big difference between questioning Golden's judgement and wondering if a kid is truly Miami caliber.

The coaches seemed to offer him on the spot after seeing him at the camp. Must mean he has great swivel hips if they really want him at corner.
Poor kid has to endure our online fans. Wait until next year after his redshirt season when our fans will be saying he should be let go because he didn't produce.

You guys make good points, but if taken to their logical conclusion, we shouldn't be saying kids look good either. I agree with Muffins. It's fair to say you don't see someone as Miami caliber and it's fair to debate back why the kid is, or what you guess he demonstrated at camp. If knowing as much as Golden was required to post here, only he and DBC would be here. That being said, my ignorant *** says this was a good pick up of a guy who is going to get a lot more love as the year goes on.
