Porter can play both spots
Smith is a plug
Pierre and Grimble can both play the 3 or defensive end

Not an ideal situation, hopefully Briscoe and Ivery pan out.
 
Porter was our most disruptive DT in limited time last year, and the only one that got consistent push. Guys that move the line of scrimmage backward are not "plugs"...I think Porter is better suited for the 3 than anyone on the roster right now. Smith is a "plug" because his strength is standing up at the point of attack and taking on two blockers without giving ground...or at least that's the concept.

Yeah Porter can be a penetrator. Just happens to be real stout at the point of attack too. Going to need that versatility if we don't get a 4th DT ready to give consistent solid play.

and I like Cain getting looks at DE. Has the frame for it and would allow us to just get the best players on the field.
 
I'm excited about Rashawn Scott. Kind of forgot about him last year and I went back not too long ago to look at his HS highlights and was like wow. Didn't realize he was that athletic. Has good size and above average speed. Streeter turned heads last spring and it carried over to the season and I see no reason why Scott couldn't do the same and surprise a lot of people.

I know a couple of guys from CI off the board and they're good peeps. Very good knowledge of the HS scene, especially 7on7.

rb: Mike James and OT will be more than serviceable next year. both are well rounded and Have great vision. OT put a sick move on Armbrister to score in a drill.

I don't like Cain at DE but what the **** do I know? Kid is thin and at 235 he's gonna get rag dolled.

Sick of bringing in LB's who aren't quite good enough to be a LB and too small to be an effective DE. With that said the coaches know what they are doing, and I hope they can make it work. SOON!

Hybrid. Doubt you will see him lined up at DE in the base 4-3 D unless they like him in pass rush situations.
 
Cain is a good backer... He's probably our most athletic and fundamental backer... His issue is strength, which is a major issue... If he can get stronger he'll be a beast... He was always one of the first players to the ball... They just broke his tackles because he was weak... He's not a bad player... I dont know about him playing DE as well... I just think that if someone puts their hands on him... He's out of the play because of his strength issues... But I can totally see what Diego is saying...
 
Also, pretty interesting what different coaches look for in LBs. Shannon had Cain at MLB (had a nice game his Fr year) and Golden said specifically he isn't playing MLB at all. Not saying either is right but thought it was interesting.
 
I look at Cain as being a nickel DE so I don't worry too much about the size. Javon Nanton's best year he probably wasn't over 235. If Cain can get even Nanton-like pressure on passing downs it would be an improvement over what we were getting last year.
