TreVonte Citizen - Year One

No doubt Knighton dished out some punishment and is tough as ****.

What Coaches & Knighton himself need to ask is - "You're a 190lb speedster - so why do you keep trying to run through defenders instead of avoiding them?"

Until Knighton makes that change he won't reach his potential
I will defer to the football people on the board if n this one. I tend to agree but that could also just be his makeup and it gives him his Austin Powers moJO.

There were times when I thought he should have run around some guys but that was just me and it sounds like you as well.

Tough kid, easy kid to like out there.

I really hope they drill this into him.

I was the same type of back when I played. I was raised with an emphasis on playing physical and bringing punishment to the defender.

With a little practice and awareness, I would have gotten alot more yards and got a scholarship somewhere. Probably lower p5 or g5. 100% I could have gone fcs easy. Beat myself up taking unnecessary hits. When you add in the fluke injuries, I didn't have enough tape in the end.

Avoid those hits Rooster. You will be alot more successful.

I think they’ll split reps between 3-4 backs.

Michigan had a 3 back system last year with Haskins, Corum & Edwards & considering we don’t really have a premier WR threat on the outside, we’re going to run the ball a lot & use a lot of Play Action working the middle of the field with TE’s & Restrepo.

Michigan ran the ball 575 times & Oregon ran it 535, theoretically if Miami wanted to run it 580 times they could evenly split 145 carries between 4 backs. But realistically the carries split are never that even, so one of them will definitely get more carries than the rest of the group, but the numbers may be closer than it normally is in most backfields.

Between Parrish, Knighton, Citizen & Franklin that’s the top 4 IMO, Chaney may have elite talent, but I have serious doubts he stays healthy all year. I hope he proves me wrong & forces his way to the top of the rotation.

Here’s to competition & may the best man win!

I'd like to see the measure of "explosive runs" that is used in the NFL, which I believe is 20+ yds.

That being said, the lack of productive explosion is non-existent at the moment. I didn't realize the backs where so pedestrian.

How much of it is OL performance, and how much is it on the RB (lack of vision, breaking tackles, etc.)?

Here's the numbers the last 2 years and my thoughts on them. I'm comparing Parrish to the 2 other Ole Miss RB's

The lack of explosive plays is a concern - I put that more on the RB than the OL than most - but that's just my opinion & there's no right/wrong answer here

Chaney - I love Chaney. I thought he had a Lamar Miller level ceiling coming in. I thought he'd overtake Cam as a Freshman, but that never happened. On the field he played at a Cam-like level - a little less explosive, but more consistent and with a higher ceiling. Given his injuries, and I don't expect him to be 100% this year, I'll be happy if he reaches a Deejay Dallas like level.

Knighton - To be fair, his numbers are a little skewed because they're solely against P5 teams. But only a little. I'm honestly shocked at how bad his numbers have been. I never thought he had a Duke Johnson level ceiling, more a Travis Homer type IMO, but I have serious doubts he reaches that now (as a runner). His speed is special, he just needs to adjust his running style. I think his role is a pass catching specialist where he's shown he can make big time plays.

Parrish - Ugh. He's a very good RB who unfortunately is trapped in an unathletic body. At 190/4.6 he's very Yearby-like. He wins with shiftiness & smarts, but being small & slow - he has limited upside. On the field he's been the most consistent & productive, so I'm assuming he'll have a good sized role. I'm rooting for him - but given his lower ceiling, my hope/preference is one of the other RB's steps up.

Miami was 66th in the nation in rushing offense in 2020. 163 yards per game. That's middle of the pack, not great but nowhere near atrocious.

In 2021, through 6 games, they were averaging 160.3 yards per game rushing. Once again, not great but decent. Cam Harris got hurt in the 6th game against UNC. The rest of the season with no Harris or Chaney, they only averaged 97.2 yards per game. Same scheme, same line. Good running backs find a way to get yards even if the line isn't opening holes for them every down. Yeah, the line sucked but every other running back was able to average over 4 yards per carry besides Knighton.
Gotta keep in mind, those numbers are skewed by kings ability to improvise time after time. Take out his numbers and that average goes down big time on designed run plays or scrambling.

I agree but he definitely reminds me of Homer with his style of play.

I know y’all hate Manny Navarro but he mentioned him as someone who could leave after this season…doesn’t make sense to me tho

Always thought it was a possibility, but hoping Mario would convince him to stick with it.

Go away from home, get a major injury in fall camp, can’t play any games, watching a bad culture from inside, maybe missing home, then seeing hometown school in playoff hunt.

Yeah I didn’t think of it that way but this actually makes sense

As much as we need him, I won’t blame any players who want out. No one wants to play offense in this scheme.

I think the players understand it more bc they’re interacting with the coaches every day, and unfortunately I think they see the writing on the wall that it doesn’t matter who the OC is. The offense under the head coach will always be low power.

It will rely on a huge wave of portal hits that didn’t happen in year 1, and as a RB why would you want to run behind this line again next year? Hoping they bring in 3 or 4 P5 starters on the line to protect you?

Mario needs to figure out a way to keep the talent on the team or this team will be stuck in perpetual rebuild
