Transfer Portal watch

There seems to be A LOT of new DL and WR from the second wave that are transferring. This gives me hope but Mario has to strike quick.

Also I understand the gripe about WR not wanting to transfer to us but can someone explain how we are giving the DL coach a pass. We should be able to attract top tier DL transfer interest considering we offer playing time and opportunity to show their skills which seems like thats what most transfers want.

Wr I get not wanting to come but DL should not be this difficult to commit unless we are not persuing hard.

Completely agree. This is why it is complicated and people can't just say "but if we changed the coaches 4 weeks ago". Sure, that might help WR recruiting, but it doesn't explain DT recruiting.

I do know that some guys we "thought" would be coming in the Portal have not yet taken action.

I hear ya, and I understand your concern.

I'd just say this. Because nearly every Portal kid backchannels before jumping...take into account the POSSIBILITY that maybe Miami NOT landing a couple more kids over the last couple of weeks JUST MIGHT be happening because they expect other guys to hit later.

Still...it's an interesting game of poker to play, and certain decisions could backfire if a kid changes his mind...but still...

Some coaches were better than others, but they were all interviewed for, and hired for, their ability to teach.

Only one or two players couldn't grasp the playbook. Everyone else who washed out just didn't get on board with the new standards.

That’s hyperbolic. We failed last year and are off to a good start this year but have a ton more needs to fill. The concern is that based on last year, we may come short again. The rational there is that while we have had a good start, we haven’t had a great start. Others are doing much better than us. DT and WR in particular are a concern. We still have time though but that doesn’t mean that some concern isn’t warranted.

I don't necessarily see us not having a great start, I see it more of quality vs quantity at this point. Most, not all, teams ahead of us have a lower average than those we have signed.
Also, to see the folks entering now, it appears a lot more quality is coming out more than when it first opened.

Uh, no. We didn't "fail" last year on the recruiting side. As has been stated previously, we signed 11 guys and had the #12 transfer portal class. Now, you can whine about whether we accurately scouted and forecasted all of the players, or that the two OLs were injured/recovering from injury. But we signed as many as we could, and we had a highly rated class, so it's not a failure.

Now, the total on-field product was a failure, but I'm not sure how that makes a few transfers (the healthy ones) "failures".

As I posted previously, we got off to a slow start in 2021-22. We had one guy at this time last year (and this year we have four). But we have been backchannelling furiously in 2022-23, and whether that satisfies you at this time, nobody can control that.

Again, last year guys (and LOTS of guys) were committing well past the January enrollment date. Even the biggest 2022 Portal classes got about half of their guys post-January-enrollment.

So why don't we try judging, you know, at more realistic dates? Like January enrollment?

Because last time I checked, there are still some very talented guys ENTERING the Portal. Even today. And you can bet your last dollar that anyone good has already been backchanneling. So while some of these names are surprises to the average fan, they aren't going to be big surprises to the entire college coaching community.

This is a big time want.

"As a sophomore in 2020 he played in 10 games and a total of 883 snaps. He conceded a solid 9 QB hurries, 3 QB hits, and 3 sacks while playing at center.

In 2021 as a junior Lee saw action in 12 games and totaled 705 snaps. He gave up 4 QB hurries, 2 QB hits, and one sack while playing at center.

In 2022 as a senior Lee saw action in 13 games and played a total of 986 snaps for the Knights. He allowed just 3 QB hurries, no QB hits, and one sack while playing at center."

NFL Draft Profile
  • For all of his physical gifts, often gets terribly sloppy, especially in pass protection.
  • He’s a bit underpowered the more Lee has to move in the run game, better in a phone booth than out in space.
  • Not great in space and tends to lose power the farther he has to move; he doesn’t finish as well on the second level as he does battle in the phone booth around the line of scrimmage.
  • Lee doesn’t have the violent hands to stand up pass rushers, and he lacks the strength at the point of attack to generate movement at the line of scrimmage
