I think his point is that it's not as easy as one up, one down. Only 40% of portal kids land somewhere. The rest are just...done. Out of football and, likely, out of school.

But the total number of scholarships is the same, and they will all get filled. So for every kid who enters the portal and doesn’t land, it opens up a spot for a G5 / lower division kid or an extra high school kid who otherwise wouldn’t have that chance.

Sometimes you wonder why not just ride out the scholly until you graduate THEN hit the portal if you havent put enough film on tape to drum up interest
