Transfer Portal watch

Yeah he just became head coach a couple of years back. His headcoach (Tolbert) finally retired. Bruce Pearl has completely turned the program around.
Oh okay that's awesome. I love coach Pearl. Our 88 team was the last team to make it to the Elite 8 until the kids made it to the Final Four a couple years ago. Great experience. We beat Oklahoma if Jeff Moore hadn't broke his hand. Stacy King was too much for Matt Geiger in the paint.

Hey, hey, you two, take it to the Auburn basketball board...

Just kidding, good to see a couple of guys connecting in this small world...

Absolutely. I supported and defended the Rambo take from Day 1.

Five drops in 2 seasons. Wiggins and Pope can do that in one game.

And?

What about Wiggins and Pope having two of the highest drop percentages?

A guy can always get more catches and yards if you throw him the ball more. Unless he is dropping catches.

Maybe you should post some, you know, actual analysis, instead of dropping context-less stats as if they are some big, nasty dump you're trying to leave on someone's lawn in the middle of the night.

One drop in 2019, four drops in 2020.

Nowhere close to Pope/Wiggins.

"Drop issues". Let's give Pope & Wiggins to OU and watch OU fans' heads explode.

Why?

He chose NEBRASKA.

Watch his film and watch him catch with his hands. That’s something that translates, no matter what the level of competition is. We need dogs that can go make contested catches.

So there are only 2 schools in the country that could have offered him?

Again, maybe he was #1 on the Miami board at one point, but others have entered the portal. If you are trying to build the argument why the Montana WR was a take over Rambo, I'm just pointing out that he doesn't seem to have a ton of other prospects, outside of the Midwest's biggest ongoing tire fire.

If there was a bidding war for the Montana kid, just let me know.

Miami cooled on him after evaluating

Yeah, I figured as much. It want from "offer me" to radio silence, and that was before some of the bigger names entered the portal.

But there's always a handful of Miami porsters who will choose to be contrarians, telling us tall tales about "the one that got away".
In my defense, Samari Toure went 46/898/5 (19.5/reception) at Nebraska, with their broken offense.

Tip of the cap to Rambo (as I’ve said in other threads), but Toure turned out to be a good one too.

I'm still sick about that Final Four.
I could sleep for weeks. That foul on the shot in the corner crushed me. That call affected the outcome of the game, but it was a good call. The defender didn't allow the shooter to come down in his space.

The obvious double dribble noncall a little before that is what kills me. The PG is dribbling the ball upcourt. The official simply can't miss that.

Sorry originalcane. Back to the regularly scheduled programming! LOL

And I'm not mad at you personally.

I try to compartmentalize. The coaches are the ones who see all the tape, from the throw to the catch. The coaches are the ones who can talk to these kids, hear what they have to say about things they've done correctly and incorrectly.

And that is different from a bunch of people issuing these immediate hot-take judgments (and I'm not saying that is what you personally did, I'm just pointing out why I might take more of a "wait-and-see" attitude).

I'm not saying Toure was the best or the worst, but there was this sort of momentum for "let's take this kid, he's the first one we've talked about, and I don't want to hear about this other kid". Again, I'm not saying this was all about you, I just happened to get into a conversation with you (and a few others).

I have said this about "regular" high school recruiting, and it applies to Portal recruiting as well. It is the easiest thing in the world to work backwards and say "he had 100 catches, he was obviously the best recruit". Never in a million years would I have predicted that Rambo would set the ALL-TIME Miami single-season record. But I will defend the coaches' assessments when they have established a track record. I may not be able to stand many things that Manny did (or didn't do), but he was pretty solid in pulling quality guys out of the Portal (Tate Martell and Tommy Kennedy aside).

The main point I was trying to make at the time was simple. The Pope/Wiggins drops were ghastly. Appalling. Game-losing drops. And I didn't think that Rambo was anywhere near the same category.

I just feel that there is a groupthink tendency for a lot of posters to have to be "first" at expressing their hot-take opinions on everything, so that they can bump those posts in a couple of years to build a case for being a Fake Nostradamus or a Fake Insider. I'm sure I've made a few mistakes too, but I'm coming up on 18,000 posts, and you're not going to find a whole lot of ridiculous hot-takes from me, because I don't roll that way. And my track record is pretty good.

---Years of telling people what a bad AD Beta Blake was
---Years of telling people what a weak President Julio Frenk was
---Years of telling people that the BOT were unqualified to oversee UM Athletics
---Years of telling people that Jose and Jorge Mas have helped, and would continue to help, UM Athletics
---Years of telling people that UM was sitting on a Scrooge McDuck pile of money, and that we just needed the WILL to spend
---Years of telling people that Mario Cristobal would make an excellent UM head coach
---Years of telling people that UM could build a stadium if we found a location and a lead donor

But comparing a Montana WR to an Oklahoma WR? Yeah, I'll leave that to the coaches.

Any news on where the interior OL from Uva is going, Rimington Trophy finalist Olu Oluwatimi? I read about him a week or two ago. Seems like a beast at center.
