Transfer Portal CBs/Juco’s

We lose two corners. We add three (Frierson off redshirt, Bethel off redshirt and Couch).

DJ Ivey and Al Blades should be more than ready to replace Mike Jackson and Jhavonte Dean. If anything, they might be an upgrade.

I don't see a huge need here.
You can’t go in with only 6 CBs. You’re an injury away from a big time depth issue.

Where is the depth, in case of injury

I don't think it's a dire situation either & I'm extremely high on all 3 (check my 2019 depth chart thread).

I'm just asking the question, because people are contradicting themselves on this topic & they don't even realize it lol
I’m high on our guys too but that’s not the point. Of course it doesn’t look dire because we haven’t even started practicing. We have to keep our fingers crossed to stay healthy there through the spring summer fall camp and season. It’s not a talent issue to me it’s numbers

Because Rumph.

He's a loser who cant recruit. Manny needs to fire his *** already
I don't think Rumph should be fired, but people can't keep making excuses for him on the recruiting trail.

I think the new strategy they're using is to have DVD handle most of the ground-work with offering & recruting the CB's which I believe will work better & pay off in the future classes.

It's not ideal but 1 or 2 safeties will have to drop into the nickel or dime

Unless if its GT don't waste a scholarship on a guy who you see a just a body

I know we say it all the time we gotta hard for CBs next season

See this is where I take Pie Young ; There was smoke of him coming to Miami a month back. This is where it makes most sense .. he’s played both DB and WR .. local kid who’s super athletic and Rumph can develop him into contributor and has more than 1 year to play.

We use the striker so much it's not a big concern.

How many corners played meaningful snaps last year? It was all Bandy and Jackson with the occasional appearance from Dean. Ivey and Blades are ready to step in, and we have three guys behind them.

Is it ideal depth? No. Is it worth taking a grad transfer. Not in my opinion.

the misses on CJ henderson and brian edwards are what hurt to me, would be nice to have one of them this year. a combo of henderson + bandy would prob be the best CB duo in the ACC.

i'm a rumph defender... to me the play at CB has been good and the depth chart at the position is objectively more talented than it's been in god knows how long. but either way this debate will be settled after this season -- if ivey, blades, frierson etc establish themselves as quality players then the rumph haters will have to take an L bcuz we'll be looking at one of the better young secondaries in the country. if the corner spot opposite bandy gets roasted all year it will be a different story.

Knowles to the rescue!!!!!!!! OK I'm kidding.... Seriously I'm kidding.....
In all seriousness I think we're fine in the secondary...

Idk if you have been following....but what happens if an injury or two take place? Take a guy who has been around the college game for a few years.

Lock in Emerson and we go in with 7.

4 of them having logged significant time for us already, 1 highly-touted guy in Frierson, and 2 incoming freshman.

At some point, you can't just take guys and stunt the growth (potential game-time) of the underclassman.

Starters:

1. Bandy
2. Ivey
Nickel - Blades or Bandy

Depth:

4. Frierson
5. Bethel
6. Couch

If Rumph can coach up Ivey, Blades, Frierson, etc. we’ll be better at CB than last year

That makes 2 of us.

Emerson's likely going to be a safety at the next level.

It’s possible to make the “we’re thin” argument at multiple positions on this team.

Rehashing it over and over at CB allows some to circle back to their hurt feelings from being jilted by two or three 5 Stars who were never coming here for all the reasons discussed here thousands of times.

Go check the portal, most of the CB's in there aren't that good & are leaving because they hardly ever played.

And a lot of them aren't Grad Transfers, so they'd have to sit out a year.

Is there a reason why Ivey, Blades & Frierson won't be ready to play?
This is the real issue.

I would take a grad transfer only. No need to get transfer corners with the depth at the position in south florida the next 2 classes.
If there is a good transfer in the portal, he'd absolutely be a take given our lack of depth. You cannot rely on "future classes." But, CBs currently in the portal are basically garbage upon hot trash.

Couch weighs 82 lbs and needs 2 years of S&C to be a viable contributor. If Bethel plays snaps on defense, it'd better be in a blowout in our favor. Otherwise, Jesus H help us.
