Was built to press at the LOS.

The 1st 2 BC possessions is all you have to watch to see how pathetic the defensive scheme is.
Their white WR (who Howard was covering) was running slants/ins all day like it was 7 v 7 drills.
And it wasn't Howard's fault that he was wide open... we're simply giving BC that. (don't know why)

Coaches were chewing out Tracy on the sideline and he was mouthing off back at them. I understand his frustration. He probably hates this ish.

If Howard's responsibility on some of those plays was to release his guy to our LBs zoning... it sure didn't work because BC put RBs into the flats all game to pull our LBs out of position.

In most instances, when we played zone, I'm not even sure getting pressure was possible. The ball was out of Rettig's hand so quick because his 1st read was always open.

Howard actually did his job in that coverage...

It's the LB's job as a group, to determine how many receivers are on each side of the field, to determine the strength, and adjust where they line up accordinly, and react based on their run -vs- pass keys. (Example: OLB reads the OT - if the OT comes 'forward' to attack the DE, its a run. If the OT drops back into pass protection, it's a pass)

Also, be aware that in ZONE when the CB releases a WR inside on a slant, he still has to continue to drop, because that ‘Slant’ could turn into a ‘Post Corner’ route, behind him and over his head. General rule of thumb in that situation is that the CB doesn't chase inside... Also in Zone, a CB doesn't bail down into the flats until he see's the ball released to the flats.

The OLB covers the curl to flats, and the MLB covers the Hook to Curl.

For example: On the interception, just so happens, Coach D, sent the OLB on a blitz, and D. Perryman bumped down to cover Hook to Curl and got an interception for a TD. Guys just have to get on the same page...

If the call was Cover 2, bump and run, then he may cover curl to flats, and the Safety has everything downfield, including the post corner

Just like they got it together during the game, trust that it'll be white board material in football meetings.

No need to hit the panic button just yet, it's early on in the season.

We have press corners with absolutely no pass rush whatsoever. I understand why we play alot of zone because if you count to 3 in coverage a cb has done his job. I counted 4 to 5 seconds on some of those plays and that is Pop Warnerish!

I'll never be convinced that we can't rush 5 and play press behind it with a safety over the top. We have too much speed (even at DL).
It's technique and scheme killing us. Not lack of DEs or DL. (Chick, Green, Pierre, Robinson - all serviceable despite what it looks like)

Is everyone cool with TH mouthing back at the coaches?

Yup

Its football, it happens.

I didnt see it personally but it happens all the time across the country. Some people just arent used to seeing that. If it is really overboard where threats are made or such then ok but a lil heated argument during a close game aint never hurt nobody, thats the media that makes it seem like a bigger story than it is most of the time.

He didnt look good at all in any aspect of coverage. I dont yet know what he's "built to do" but unfortunately for him coaches decide the system and it's his job to get good at it. He can talk back if he wants but again unfortunate for him is that 3 guys looked better last game and that wont help him. Fortunately he's young and they'll probably take this as frustration.

He told D'Onofrio: "Say "what" again. Say "what" again. I dare you. I double-dare you, mother*&^%$#. Say "what" one more god**** time."

Was at the game and tried to focus on him a little when he was in there. From my point of view he struggled quite a bit but that is expected in a guys 1st game as a Tr FR (unless you are Duke or Flowers). I expect him to play much better this week and through out the year.
