Tracy Howard Running w/ 1st Team

so everyone wanted him to start, now that he will ppl are having second thoughts, number 1 corner in the nation probably would have started anywhere.

Like 5, I'm a little skeptical at this point. Finnie was wearing a black jersey early into practice last year and had people going crazy too, and that didn't translate to the field.

I definitely think it's a good sign if he wins a starting spot - but beating out McGee and Finnie shouldn't really be that hard for the #1 CB in the country.

I'm cautiously hoping he's the goods - but won't be convinced until I see him on the field

Howard is going to get abused a lot

Freshman get beat, it happens, but he's a baller and will play well as a Freshman. He will get better as the season goes on and will be reliable from the beginning.

The Sucks he is slow will be coming very soon from a few

Only from people who don't understand football.

I think we will be stout against the run with Porter and Smith clogging up the middle. Chick is also tough against the run. My fear is that our secondary may get exposed. Not including Howard, can the rest of those guys really cover? Ideally, I wish we had a veteran secondary that could bail Howard out of the few mistakes he is going to make on the field or cover them up.

I don't know if we have that at UM. Only speaking of the upperclassmen because I feel that all of our young corners are talented and maturity along with experience is all that is needed. Can Mcghee truly hold down the Field Side corner position. When Coach D dials up those fire blitz packages, can Mcghee hold his man down those few seconds? If he can we can protect Howard for the first half of the season until he really becomes acclimated to the college game and speed. What I do like is his ability to read coverages .

With not the most Rangy safeties around our secondary scares me.

I think you'll see less guys get lost in Zone coverage this year. I think the Mcgee question is a good one and I think the answer is "no." I don't believe he can lock down the field corner spot. As a result, I think you'll see more zone. When we went to zone last year, guys were absolutely lost. My hope is that is lessened this year. I think that's why Howard will play a role regardless of his speed issues. I'm relatively slow in the 40, but my shuttle is strong. In zone coverage, what you need is a burst. Guys that were CLEARLY way faster than me weren't creating crazy separation because it's all based on anticipation. Again, from reports and what we already know, this is supposed to be Howard's advantage. Albeit, he'll be at Corner, where this stuff applies less than at Safety.

Howard will have a Janorris Jenkins like impact this year. Anyone doubting his abilities can go kick rocks.

this might not make sense but all we know is that he is starting. he could only be starting because of how bad the DB's are or if cause he really is the real deal. If he wasn't starting we would all start to think that maybe he isn't that good or hes to slow or overrated etc. what im trying to say is that i think its better that he's all ready starting then if he wasn't.
