Whether you agree with it or not, the concept behind marital property is not that the spouse contributed at all to the business. The logic behind it is that if the other spouse wasn't taking care of everything else like the house and kids, etc, then they wouldn't have had the time to invest into the business to have gotten it where they did.
While the billions in this case makes it sound ridiculous, there is definitely some validity to that. I have my own law practice and while my wife has never contributed a thing to the business itself or helped me practice law, unquestionably I could not do what I do if she wasn't taking care of the house and mainly the kids every day. I just wouldn't have the time. So I get it. Don't like it? Get a prenup!
